Mossad against the Egyptian regime: What will the Mossad do?

In 1962, the Egyptian regime launched its new missile program, which poses a threat to Israel and the Mossad. So, the Mossad and its secret warriors have to intervene. But the main threat is that the Egyptian missiles can reach and harm Israel and the Mossad. However, in 1965, the missile program was put on hold.

The Jews are being persecuted again, 27 years after the Holocaust, and the Mossad has to do something to prevent it. But what?

In this episode of Head to Head, Mehdi Hasan challenges prominent Israeli historian Benny Morris on his support for Israel’s war on Gaza, the history around the founding of Israel and the Nakba.

Morris’ book ‘The Birth of the Palestinian Refugee Problem, 1947-1949’ dismantled many of the myths behind the displacement of more than 700,000 Palestinians during that period. His critics, however, say he now justifies many of those crimes.

Hasan and Morris are joined by a panel of three experts:

Diana Buttu – a Palestinian lawyer and former advisor for the PLO
Daniel Levy – a former Israeli peace negotiator and current President of the US/ Middle East Project
Emmanuel Navon – an International Relations lecturer at Tel Aviv University

Perhaps no other issue has shaped post-WWII Middle East like the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has. The establishment of the state of Israel in 1948 and the subsequent expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians has caused an enmity that is still visible to the present day. The issue has been so central that all the prominent strains of ideological thought which dominated the region in the second half of the 20th century have addressed it, whether it was Nationalism, pan-Arabism or Islamism. The conflict has led to numerous major wars and has repeatedly needed the world’s superpowers to step in and mediate. Through various twists and turns, Palestine and Israel have gone on to experience very different fates - with the dreams and aspirations of one moving further away from reality, whilst the other is moving towards its manifestation.

“Inside Israel, we are Palestinians too.”

When solidarity protests erupted across the country in May, a Palestinian resident in the city of Lydd (or Lod, as Israel renamed it) told AJ+ that local Jewish Israelis marked their homes with red paint so they could be targeted for attacks by armed settlers.

This is part of a much larger project happening in Lydd, where ultranationalist Jewish Israelis have been moving into the city for over a decade with resources and support from the state. The group is called the Garin Torani, or “Torah Seeds,” and its goal is to create a Jewish majority in Arab-majority neighborhoods. Residents we spoke with say that while the city has welcomed these Jewish settlers, it has also ignored the basic needs of Palestinian citizens.

In the aftermath of recent violence that left two people dead, one Jewish and the other Palestinian, new levels of mistrust and generational trauma are haunting these residents.

AJ+ went to Lydd to find out how Palestinians with Israeli citizenship are challenging the country’s de facto policy of divide and rule while demanding freedom from colonial oppression.

This year, Israel celebrated the 75th anniversary of its founding in 1948. But how exactly was that country born on land that was already called Palestine?

Despite the Suez Canal being located in Egypt, it was owned and controlled by the British and the French for the first 9 decades of its existence. Shortly after the Egyptian Revolution of 1952, the charismatic Gamal Abdel Nasser rose to the forefront to lead Egypt. In 1956, Nasser would make the most important decision of his career when he nationalised the foreign-owned Suez Canal; his power and the legacy he would subsequently carve out for himself all hung in the balance as the British and French colluded with Israel to bring him down.

UPDATE: It has now been confirmed that the shipment for Israel was unloaded in Albania BEFORE heading to Egypt. It is now in Turkey and has been boarded by Activists!

Right, so Egypt has seemingly affirmed who’s side they are on with regards to Israel and everybody else they’re currently engaged in attacks on by allowing an Israeli warship to pass through the Suez Canal on the 1st November, citing legal convention as it’s reason for doing so, the reason it is hiding behind at any rate, despite having full sovereign control over the Suez Canal itself and having exercised that control in the past to actually restrict shipping, but not only that under international treaty it is obliged in the current climate to restrict Israeli shipping, especially a warship. So what has prompted this move from Egypt as ill-advised a move as this is? Have the been leaned on, are they afraid of something, or is it something else?
Right, so Egypt have allowed a German built Saar warship owned by Israel to pass through the Suez Canal though with reports scant on this event, little more than video footage having been shared of the ship as it travels through the Suez Canal, it isn’t actually clear whether it is heading north or south. I would imagine south, I can’t imagine this vessel has been docked at the only Israeli port south of the Suez Canal at Eilat, that has been too much of a target for the likes of the Houthis especially, but also other Gazan allies as well, but it hasn’t been confirmed which way it is headed that I have seen, You can imagine it might be heading south to perhaps deal with those Houthis or to try and protect shipping more, but why here and why now is still a bit of an unknown.
Just the fact that Egypt have allowed this vessel through the Suez Canal is enough to cause global outrage however, so much so that statements have hurriedly been made.
The Suez Canal Authority for example, the Egyptian government authority overseeing travel through the Suez Canal has stated that:
‘The Suez Canal is committed to implementing the Constantinople Convention, which guarantees the freedom of navigation through the canal without discrimination based on the nationality of the ships passing through.’
Well isn’t that convenient! The Constantinople Convention of 1888 is what they are citing and it basically says that the canal remains open to all vessels of all nations, during both peace and war, without discrimination. Right OK, but that is actually a bit of an oversimplification, because like most International Conventions that we’ve become accustomed to and introduced to since the events of October 7th have thrust them into the spotlight a lot more, it gets broken down into various separate Articles, and it is Article X of the Constantinople Convention that gives Egypt nowhere to hide on this score, it basically stating that Egypt have an exceptions clause here, in that while the Constantinople Convention guarantees free passage of ships, these rights also give Egypt specifically the right to block any ships...

One of the biggest myths about the Israel-Palestine conflict is that it's been going on for centuries, that this is all about ancient religious hatreds.

In fact, while religion is involved, the conflict is mostly about two groups of people who claim the same land. And it really only goes back about a century, to the early 1900s.
