"Team Ministry" by Pastor Darrell Johns of Atlanta West Pentecostal Church
Team ministry mirrors the ministry of Jesus and is at the heart of biblical leadership. Team ministry develops leaders, multiplies ministry, preserves the life of the leader, and advances the kingdom of God.

Darrell Johns has pastored Atlanta West Pentecostal Church since August 1995. His life goal is to develop leaders for the kingdom of God and is blessed to lead a church with a team-ministry culture of staff and volunteers. He has served on various boards and committees and, since 2013, as the district superintendent of Georgia.

Harris County prosecutors said Wednesday they are investigating new claims of fraud against a Houston man who once served as R. Kelly’s crisis manager.

Darrell Tracy Johnson was indicted by a grand jury Tuesday on a 3rd-degree felony charge of aggregate theft. His first court appearance, which was set for Wednesday, was waived due to the court’s COVID-19 protocols.

Johnson is accused of defrauding two people out of $50,000 in 2019 in what investigators say were schemes involving crisis management and real estate investment.

“Services that were never rendered and the money was never returned to the victims,” said Harris County assistant district attorney Sheila Hansel, who works in the consumer fraud division.

Now, additional people have come forward claiming they were also taken advantage of by Johnson.

Mindy Howard and her mother were among a group of 10 people who gathered at the Harris County Criminal Courthouse on Wednesday, holding signs detailing dollar amounts they said Johnson stole from them.

“He’s taken over $2 million from my dad, that we know of,” Howard said.

Howard said Johnson is her 77-year-old father’s neighbor. She said Johnson involved her father in a variety of deals that never materialized, from real estate to marketing.

“For the past four or five years, he’s just kind of worked his way into my father’s trust. So, it’s just a constant stream of ‘I need another $10,000, another $20,000.’ We’ve seen wire transfers go out for $160,000 and $175,000,” she told KPRC2.

She said the impact on her family has been devastating.

“It’s destroying our family to see everything that he’s worked for being stolen out from under him with all of these lies,” Howard said.

Howard and others are now coming forward, meeting with prosecutors Wednesday with hopes of their cases being investigated and resulting in additional charges against Johnson.

That includes Yachtze Luchin who has known Johnson for over 20 years. His cousin is Johnson’s wife.

“Based on that family connection, it made it easy for me to be a believer in what he presented to me,” said Luchin, who now describes Johnson as a “con artist”.

Luchin said he invested $60,000 in a real estate deal with Johnson that turned out to be a bust.

“No deal, no money. I’m not worried about the money. I know I’m not going to get the money back. We’re all here today because this needs to come to a stop and be stopped now before there are other victims,” Luchin said.

In previous interviews with KPRC 2, some alleged victims who did not want to be identified, worried their cases could not be included because they happened so long ago, but prosecutors said that’s not necessarily the case.

“If we can show a course of conduct going back year after year after year with no breaks in it, we can go back and grab cases from 10 to 12 years ago and bring them into this. Whether we can make those connections and fill in that many gaps between the most recent cases and things that happened some years ago, is yet to be seen,” assistant DA Hansel told KPRC 2.

Johnson is currently free on a $15,000 bond.

Hansel said Johnson must appear in court Monday for a hearing on his bond conditions. She plans to ask the judge for travel restrictions and for Johnson to surrender his passport.

She also wants Johnson to be prohibited from soliciting or taking money from anyone for investment or real estate purposes.

The Miami Hurricanes football team represents the University of Miami in college football. The Hurricanes compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Football Bowl Subdivision and the Coastal Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The program began in 1926 and has won five AP national championships (1983, 1987, 1989, 1991, 2001).[3]

The Miami Hurricanes are among the most storied and decorated football programs in NCAA history. Miami is ranked fourth on the list of all-time Associated Press National Poll Championships, tied with USC and Ohio State and behind Alabama, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma.[4] Two Hurricanes (Vinny Testaverde in 1986 and Gino Toretta in 1992) have won the Heisman Trophy. Twelve College Football Hall of Fame members either played or coached at the University of Miami: Bennie Blades, Don Bosseler, Ted Hendricks, Don James (played at Miami but was inducted as a coach), Russell Maryland, Ed Reed, Vinny Testaverde, Gino Torretta, Arnold Tucker, and coaches Andy Gustafson, Jack Harding, Dennis Erickson and Jimmy Johnson.

As of the end of the 2021 season, the Miami Hurricanes have a compiled record of 644–370–19 since the program's 1926 launch.

Since 2008, the University of Miami has played its home games at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, roughly 22 miles (35 km) north of the university's primary campus in Coral Gables. Prior to 2008, from 1937 until 2007, Miami played their home games at the Miami Orange Bowl, which was demolished in 2008.

The Space In Which He Calls Us To Follow | Week 5 | In this sermon, Darrell brings us into the life-giving conversation Jesus had one night with a religious leader named Nicodemus. Even though Nicodemus is a respected, good, and religious man, he is powerless to attain the spiritual and eternal life of the Kingdom of God on his own power. Jesus is clear that in order to have the full life Nicodemus longs for, he must be born from above. This is crucial to realize - people are not naturally able to attain spiritual life. God must do it. And God is doing it through the work of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. All Nicodemus and we have to do is look to Jesus in faith, and we will grow to experience the same spiritual life that God Himself experiences. Amazingly, God really wants us to share in the life He has. All we need to do is to look to Jesus.

Christmas 2013 | Week 2 | Christmas is a time of year with great expectations, but those can also lead to great disappointments. John the Baptist had great expectations of Jesus. That he would be the messiah and bring a baptism of both Spirit and Fire to the world as the prophets foretold. Jesus however, had a different timeline. He came with a baptism of Spirit, yes, but the baptism of fire he has reserved for the day of judgement in the future. So John, imprisoned for speaking out against the adulterous Herod, is left to ask Jesus, are you the “coming one”? Behind his theological struggle to know if Jesus is the messiah, is also his personal struggle to reconcile why he is in prison and Herod is still reigning if Jesus is in fact “the One”. Like John, we too can put our own expectations onto Jesus, which ultimately leaves us disappointed when they aren’t met. Instead, he must let Jesus be Jesus and for Him to fulfill His promises in His timing.

Week 5 | Darrell unpacks a text full of imagery and symbolism that ultimately leads us to one truth: repentance is the way to the kingdom of Jesus Christ. The lampstands, earthquake and violent imagery is showing us how the Church is called to stand as a prophetic witness against the idols of this world, but first we must repent in order to walk clothed in grace and truth. The new kingdom is breaking in, but only to those ready to accept turn from sinful ways and declare Jesus as Lord.

Week 10 | In this sermon, Darrell unpacks the parable of the great banquet. Like many parables, it’s about more than meets the eye. Unlike other parables, it is one of the most autobiographical parables Jesus ever spoke. Here in Luke 14, we learn the depth and breadth of Jesus’ invitation to “come”. We walk through Jesus’ joy, disappointment, and passion in His role as Host. Then Darrell unwraps the scripture further and we realize that, like the guests in the parable, we are a people full of excuses. Not only that, but our excuses reveal to us our TRUE beliefs in and of Jesus, His kingdom, and His character.

Christmas 2013 | Week 3 | The forgotten man of Christmas is the main character in the book of Matthew, who demonstrates how to preach christ without speaking a word and shows us what it means to be a disciple. In Matthew 1:18-25, the Holy Spirit reveals to Joseph the mystery that will unfold before him, that is life-altering. A turning point in Josephs's life, where the future is unsteady but by his faithfulness to God in uncertain times, God meets him in that place of mystery. Resulting, in Joseph embracing the uncertainty and walking into the future behind God.

Christmas 2013 | Week 1 | What are you expecting this Christmas? In this message, Darrell looks at the expectations John the Baptist had as he prepared the way for the Lord. Jesus, he came to believe, was the messiah, and so his expectations were that in meeting Jesus, he would meet God. He expected to see signs and wonders of the new kingdom breaking into this world. He expected to be overwhelmed, engulfed, flooded, and filled with the Holy Spirit and fire as the saviour of the world entered in. When you hear the story of Christmas, a baby coming in a manger, what do you expect?

Revelation | Week 11 | In this chapter, the Apostle John once again sees heaven open and a great revelation of who Jesus is. This time, Jesus is a warrior, coming down on a white horse. Eyes of blazing fire, a sword in his mouth, an unknown name on his body, a robe covered in blood, and multitudes of crowns. What does this all mean? Darrell walks us through the text to reveal what Jesus is revealing about himself: He is the Divine Warrior who has already won.

This sermon is Jesus’ manifesto on living life in His kingdom; it is a captivating vision of a new way to be human; it is a reorientation of our lives around the rhythms of grace; it is a poignant, punchy, practical description of what it looks like to reflect God's character in our interactions with others. It is the greatest sermon, given by the greatest and most influential teacher in all of human history. More than that, it is a timely message from God incarnate to us. For these reasons (and many others) we are going to spend the next months doing a deep dive in Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount.
