Mat has travelled over to China to attend the Shanghai Motor Show, and he’s about to present to you his A-Z list of the best cars due out over the next few years!
There are a whole host of different cars here, of all different shapes and sizes. For example, he’ll take a close look at the BYD Seagull - a small all-electric hatchback that will cost from just £10,000! What’s more, the range-topper will still have a claimed range of 252 miles. There are, of course, a host of other Chinese cars on show here, including the all-electric Hiphi Y and Hiphi X (no prizes for guessing where the inspiration for the names came from).
But it wasn’t just Chinese brands on show. There were all-new cars from global, world-renowned brands here. BMW unveiled the i7 M70, the 660hp edition of the all-electric 7 Series. The all-new Polestar 4 was also unveiled, as well as the new Volkswagen ID.7 saloon.
Not only that, but there are a number of crazy autos on show, including a huge off-roading camper van called the Armadillo!

This is the Moose Test, and strangely, many new cars are failing it. Either rolling up on two wheels, spinning, understeering straight on - or rolling over completely.
It’s a test that was made famous by Tekneekens Vard, a Swedish motoring magazine. And they have put hundreds of cars through the test, to ensure that their handling is good enough to be safe on the road.

Now, you would have thought that the grip and handling of cars was getting better, not worse. So, I’ve done some digging to find out what’s going on.

The Moose Test measures a car’s cornering ability and resistance to rolling over. You basically weave through a set of cones that replicate swerving to avoid something in the road, like a Moose - giving the test its name. Obviously, this is common in Sweden, where the test was invented.
This may seem a little irrelevant to those of us who aren’t in countries that have Moose roaming around, however, it’s similar to a pedestrian stepping out into the road, or a car driving out from a blind junction.
The test is done on a dry surface while having the car fully loaded up with people and luggage. Definitely putting the car in the worst-case scenario.
And in terms of cornering, the test is really aggressive. A lot of the cars complete the test at around 40 to 50 miles per hour - and whilst this doesn’t sound like a lot - speaking from experience, the turns are extremely tight.
You have to wind on a lot of steering angle, then unwind it, before doing the same in the other direction. A scenario that doesn’t happen too much on the road, but it certainly can.

Mat has travelled over to China to attend the Shanghai Motor Show, and he’s about to present to you his A-Z list of the best cars due out over the next few years!
There are a whole host of different cars here, of all different shapes and sizes. For example, he’ll take a close look at the BYD Seagull - a small all-electric hatchback that will cost from just £10,000! What’s more, the range-topper will still have a claimed range of 252 miles. There are, of course, a host of other Chinese cars on show here, including the all-electric Hiphi Y and Hiphi X (no prizes for guessing where the inspiration for the names came from).
But it wasn’t just Chinese brands on show. There were all-new cars from global, world-renowned brands here. BMW unveiled the i7 M70, the 660hp edition of the all-electric 7 Series. The all-new Polestar 4 was also unveiled, as well as the new Volkswagen ID.7 saloon.
Not only that, but there are a number of crazy autos on show, including a huge off-roading camper van called the Armadillo!

It’s time for another carwow EV range test!
We’ve got our hands on six of the latest all-electric SUVs to hit the market, and we’re about to see just how accurate the manufacturer’s claimed ranges are! So let’s take a closer look at the cars we have joining us.
First up it’s the Volkswagen ID Buzz. It comes with a single electric motor that drives the rear wheels and can produce 204hp. The edition we have here also comes with a 77kWh battery which is good for a claimed range of 255 miles. The one we have here also costs £65k, although the range starts from £57,000.
Next up it’s the Mercedes EQA. This edition has a single motor that drives the front wheels and can put down 190hp. We’ve got our hands on the entry-level version, which costs £52,000, and it comes with a 71kWh battery that comes with a claimed range of 263 miles.
We also have the Nissan Ariya joining us for this test. The Ariya comes with a starting price of £46,000, although the version we have here cost around £54,000. As a result, it comes with an 87kWh battery which has a claimed range of 310 miles. Its single electric motor can also produce 242hp.
Next up it’s the Audi Q4 Sportback. The Q4 range starts from £52,000, although we’ve got our hands on the dual motor edition which costs around £64,000! As a result of the two motors, it can put down 299hp, and the 77kWh battery has a claimed range of 312 miles.
The penultimate car in this line-up is the Genesis GV60. With a 77kWh battery, this single-motor rear-wheel-drive edition can produce 229hp and it has a claimed range of 321 miles. The entry-level GV60 costs from £54,000, and the one we’ve got here costs £63,000.
Then finally we have the Tesla Model Y Long Range. The range starts from £45,000 and comes with a single electric motor. As for the Long Range, this costs from £53,000, and it also comes with dual motors that can put down 384hp. It also has a 75kWh battery which has a claimed range of 351 miles.
