Mat has travelled over to China to attend the Shanghai Motor Show, and he’s about to present to you his A-Z list of the best cars due out over the next few years!

There are a whole host of different cars here, of all different shapes and sizes. For example, he’ll take a close look at the BYD Seagull - a small all-electric hatchback that will cost from just £10,000! What’s more, the range-topper will still have a claimed range of 252 miles. There are, of course, a host of other Chinese cars on show here, including the all-electric Hiphi Y and Hiphi X (no prizes for guessing where the inspiration for the names came from).

But it wasn’t just Chinese brands on show. There were all-new cars from global, world-renowned brands here. BMW unveiled the i7 M70, the 660hp edition of the all-electric 7 Series. The all-new Polestar 4 was also unveiled, as well as the new Volkswagen ID.7 saloon.

Not only that, but there are a number of crazy autos on show, including a huge off-roading camper van called the Armadillo!

This is the Moose Test, and strangely, many new cars are failing it. Either rolling up on two wheels, spinning, understeering straight on - or rolling over completely.

It’s a test that was made famous by Tekneekens Vard, a Swedish motoring magazine. And they have put hundreds of cars through the test, to ensure that their handling is good enough to be safe on the road.

Now, you would have thought that the grip and handling of cars was getting better, not worse. So, I’ve done some digging to find out what’s going on.

The Moose Test measures a car’s cornering ability and resistance to rolling over. You basically weave through a set of cones that replicate swerving to avoid something in the road, like a Moose - giving the test its name. Obviously, this is common in Sweden, where the test was invented.

This may seem a little irrelevant to those of us who aren’t in countries that have Moose roaming around, however, it’s similar to a pedestrian stepping out into the road, or a car driving out from a blind junction.

The test is done on a dry surface while having the car fully loaded up with people and luggage. Definitely putting the car in the worst-case scenario.

And in terms of cornering, the test is really aggressive. A lot of the cars complete the test at around 40 to 50 miles per hour - and whilst this doesn’t sound like a lot - speaking from experience, the turns are extremely tight.

You have to wind on a lot of steering angle, then unwind it, before doing the same in the other direction. A scenario that doesn’t happen too much on the road, but it certainly can.

Mat has travelled over to China to attend the Shanghai Motor Show, and he’s about to present to you his A-Z list of the best cars due out over the next few years!

There are a whole host of different cars here, of all different shapes and sizes. For example, he’ll take a close look at the BYD Seagull - a small all-electric hatchback that will cost from just £10,000! What’s more, the range-topper will still have a claimed range of 252 miles. There are, of course, a host of other Chinese cars on show here, including the all-electric Hiphi Y and Hiphi X (no prizes for guessing where the inspiration for the names came from).

But it wasn’t just Chinese brands on show. There were all-new cars from global, world-renowned brands here. BMW unveiled the i7 M70, the 660hp edition of the all-electric 7 Series. The all-new Polestar 4 was also unveiled, as well as the new Volkswagen ID.7 saloon.

Not only that, but there are a number of crazy autos on show, including a huge off-roading camper van called the Armadillo!

Meet the all-new Toyota Land Cruiser!

It’s been 72 years since Toyota released the very first Land Cruiser, and since then there have been over 10 generations of this off-roading legend! The question is, has this new edition been worth the wait?

Well based on looks alone, we’d say it definitely has! The new Land Cruiser rolls up with a retro, boxy design that reminds us of a classic Defender, Suzuki Jimny, and Mercedes G-Class. Whether you’re looking at it from the front, side, or rear, the boxy design is clear to see and we absolutely love it!

What’s more, Toyota will also be releasing a limited edition First Edition model which ramps up the retro style even more! This will arrive with rounded headlamps, as well as the choice of some limited-edition two-tone paint jobs.

While the exterior is keeping things retro, the interior has been notably modernised. It may keep things a bit boxy, but there’s a huge infotainment screen on the dash, a digital drivers display, as well as a large centre console that can even house a fridge.

There are a couple of engine choices available, although they won’t be released in all markets. When it comes to petrol, the entry-level will be a 2.7-litre 4-cylinder with 163hp and 246Nm. There will also be a more powerful 2.4-litre turbo petrol with 281hp and 430Nm, however, both of these won’t be available globally. The entry-level diesel is a 2.8-litre turbo diesel with 204hp and 500Nm, which is pretty similar to the engine from the outgoing Land Cruiser. You can also expect a mild hybrid and full hybrid selection to go on sale in the future.

We don’t know the price yet, but given the last Land Cruiser cost from at least £40,000, you can expect to be paying a bit more for this new model. But will it be worth it?! You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!

This is the Moose Test, and strangely, many new cars are failing it. Either rolling up on two wheels, spinning, understeering straight on - or rolling over completely.

It’s a test that was made famous by Tekneekens Vard, a Swedish motoring magazine. And they have put hundreds of cars through the test, to ensure that their handling is good enough to be safe on the road.

Now, you would have thought that the grip and handling of cars was getting better, not worse. So, I’ve done some digging to find out what’s going on.

The Moose Test measures a car’s cornering ability and resistance to rolling over. You basically weave through a set of cones that replicate swerving to avoid something in the road, like a Moose - giving the test its name. Obviously, this is common in Sweden, where the test was invented.

This may seem a little irrelevant to those of us who aren’t in countries that have Moose roaming around, however, it’s similar to a pedestrian stepping out into the road, or a car driving out from a blind junction.

The test is done on a dry surface while having the car fully loaded up with people and luggage. Definitely putting the car in the worst-case scenario.

And in terms of cornering, the test is really aggressive. A lot of the cars complete the test at around 40 to 50 miles per hour - and whilst this doesn’t sound like a lot - speaking from experience, the turns are extremely tight.

You have to wind on a lot of steering angle, then unwind it, before doing the same in the other direction. A scenario that doesn’t happen too much on the road, but it certainly can.
