Hezbollah has confirmed the death of its leader, Hassan Nasrallah, after a series of massive Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon’s capital Beirut. Nasrallah, who had not been seen in public for years because of fears of being assassinated by Israel, was one of the most influential figures in the Middle East.

Ali Karki, the commander of Hezbollah’s southern front, and other Hezbollah military leaders were also killed in the attack on Beirut’s southern suburb of Dahiyeh, according to the Israeli military.

Hezbollah confirmed Nasrallah’s death and vowed to keep up the fight against Israel “in support of Gaza and Palestine, and in defence of Lebanon”. Iran, the main backer of Hezbollah, declared five days of national mourning. Iran’s Supreme Leader declared that Nasrallah’s death "will not go unavenged"

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country had “settled the score” with Nasrallah’s death and described his assassination as an “historic turning point” which could reshape the region.

US President Joe Biden said that his death was a "measure of justice for his many victims” and Kamala Harris described Nasrallah as a “terrorist” with blood on his hands.

Western countries are warning citizens to leave Lebanon as the assassination fuels fears of a wider war. Israel has strongly signalled that it may send ground forces into Lebanon. Thousands of Lebanese citizens are continue to flee the south of the country.

🇹🇿 BBQ MEAT: Cover meat with salt. Cut a slits in the legs. Add ginger, garlic and lime juice. Rub sauce on meat.

🇹🇿 MANDAZI: Pour in wheat flour and add sugar. Mix. Add sunflower oil and mix. Add yeast and mix. Add warm water and mix. Knead into a ball. Roll out and cut into shapes. In a wok, add sunflower oil and fry.

🇹🇿 TEA: Boil water, add tea grass, ginger and sugar.

🇹🇿 RICE CAKE: In a bowl, pour rice flour, wheat flour and corn porridge. Add sugar, yeast and warm water and mix.


🇹🇿 PORRIGE: In a wood vessel, add soaked corn and pound into corn powder. Sieve. In a pot, add water and corn powder. Cook for about 20 minutes. Add salt and continue stirring.

🇹🇿 PILAU: In a pot, add chopped beef and cook. In a separate pot, add oil, red onion, mix. Add ground ginger and garlic mix. Add ground spices (cardamom, cinnamon, and cumin). Add meat and mix. Add salt. Add water

Exploring the Richness of African Cuisine and Traditional Foods

Africa is a continent rich in culture, diversity, and cuisine. From the north to the south, east to west, there are a variety of traditional foods and dishes that reflect the Continents unique history, geography, and culture.
African cuisine is known for its bold flavors, spices, and unique ingredients that have been passed down from generation to generation.

In many African cultures, food is a way of bringing people together, strengthening family bonds, and celebrating important events.

Let's take a closer look at some of the most popular and delicious traditional foods from across the continent.


1. In West Africa, dishes like Jollof Rice, Fufu, and Egusi Soup are staples. Jollof Rice, a one-pot dish made with rice, tomatoes, onions, and a variety of spices, is considered the national dish of many West African countries. Fufu, a starchy dough made from cassava, plantains, or yams, is often served with soup or stew. Egusi Soup, made from ground melon seeds and vegetables, is a flavorful and hearty dish that's popular across the region.

2. In East Africa, Ugali, Chapati, and Nyama Choma are popular. Ugali, a staple food in Kenya and Tanzania, is made from maize flour and water and is often served with vegetables, meat, or fish. Chapati, a flatbread made from wheat flour and oil, is a common side dish in many East African countries. Nyama Choma, a dish of grilled meat, is a popular and beloved dish in East Africa, especially in Kenya.

3. In South Africa, Braai, Bobotie, and Biltong are some of the most beloved dishes. Braai, the South African version of a barbecue, is a social gathering where meat, often lamb, beef, or boerewors (a type of sausage), is grilled over an open flame. Bobotie, a savory dish made with minced meat, eggs, and spices, is considered the national dish of South Africa. Biltong, a type of dried meat, is a popular snack that's similar to beef jerky.

African food is the world's least popular cuisine. In terms of adoption, two schools of thought emerge: first, the worst offenders are Africans who refuse to have anything to do with their food. Second, concerns of colonialism and slavery influenced the unfavourable impression of African food as well as the adoption of other cultures’ cuisines. English food is popular in Zimbabwe, yet French food is popular in Francophone countries such as Mali and Senegal. It's worth noting that colonisers not only plundered native foods but also undermined local food systems and traditions.

Culinary schools in Zimbabwe and Africa, in general, take a proactive approach to teach European cuisine, with just a little amount of time devoted to local cuisines. Culinary schools in Africa continue to teach European cuisine, even though the decolonisation paradigm is a popular topic among academics. Wouldn't it be great if these institutions began teaching African food for most of the year and devoted one week to European cuisine? Same with how the corporate world appreciates African Food when It’s Africa Day or Heritage Day in South Africa. Shouldn’t this be a normal practice for Africans?

Furthermore, African foods are easier to come by in townships than in the core business areas of Zimbabwe's big cities. South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, and other African countries are in the same boat. It is very easy to find non-local cuisine in Bulawayo CBD, but you will have to go a little deeper if you want to find native delicacies. The same is true for flights, buses, hotels, and schools. In these places, it's difficult to find any traces of traditional meals. A visitor from London has a 99 percent probability of having an English breakfast in a Nyanga hotel. The same cannot be said for someone traveling from Namibia's Kunene Region to New York and expecting to see a serving of Oshuungu. This raises the question of what kind of food is appropriate for consumption in public settings.

Young people must rise and embrace their culinary heritage in the future. Young people must be appreciative and proud of their food, and without their support, Africa's culinary legacy may be lost forever. Knowledge about indigenous food preparation must be preserved among adults, particularly grandparents, village elders, and historians. It will be difficult to have any meaningful conservation If there is no meaningful data. As proponents of their own culture, African Food must be firstly embraced by Its people. Its people should be proud of eating and carrying local dishes.

Nobody wants to witness an African Chef from Malawi presenting French Cuisine at an international cooking competition (like the current Olympics in Japan). Malawian cuisine is something that people would like to see. Something has to change, as such thinking suggests. Furthermore, the future African food industry should have a high level of UBUNTU - 'I am because we are' - food preparation that is in line with human connectivity and nature. In the future, Africa will require a new food system. One for Africa and all African nationals. One that brings our societies, cultures, values, and livelihoods back to life.

Returning to these traditional techniques is difficult, but it is the only healthy alternative we have in the future.

5 of the best street foods in South A

Moving ahead from the scenic beauty and marvelous beauty of South Africa, the country also tops the arena of having the most affordable street food. A foodie traveler can find delicious and ready to eat food at every corner of the South African cities which are not only good in taste but also pocket-friendly. Today we bring you a round-up of some traditional South African street foods that celebrate the rainbow nation’s diverse culture and rich culinary heritage.

1. Bunny Chow
This is a very popular dish of South Africa and is loved by every local. This is not only a known street snack but is also included in the native foods of South Africa. A combination of bread and curry, this dish originated in the Durban Indian community and has made its way too many parts of South Africa. Bunny chow is widely eaten in India and can be found in some Indian restaurants in Cape Town.

2. Boerewors
A popular food in South Africa and was not only originated in South Africa but also in Zimbabwe. To qualify as Boerewors the dish must have at least 90% of meat. It is coiled shape and thicker than a sausage and is known to be derived from a type of sausage made in the south of Ardour River in France. It is made up of beef mince and also has coriander, cloves and nutmeg added to it.

3. Shisa Nyama
Shisa nyama, which literally means ‘burnt meat’ in Zulu, features a variety of BBQ meats – including boerewors, steak, chops, chicken and ribs, cooked on a braai. These grilled meats are usually served with a variety of accompaniments including the traditional mieliepap and chakalaka. A shisa nyama is usually done at parties, in someone’s backyard with a large gathering of friends around a braai, but even at that several restaurants in South Africa also offer shisa nyama.

5. Gatsby
This ultimate Capetonian classic foot-long sub is what sandwich dreams are made of. Ideal for sharing, the gatsby comprises a wide variety of fillings including chicken, steak, seafood, polony or viennas, slap chips, salad, cheese, eggs and sauces. While not related to the movie, ‘Great Gatsby’, this monstrous baguette, could apparently be called the ‘great Gatsby’ for its size.

4. Mogodu
A slow-cooked tripe stew, mogodu is well loved across Africa and sometimes also includes cow or sheep intestines, which you can smell a mile away, cooking in a huge pot over an open fire in most townships across South Africa. Mogodu is usually served with pap or tiff. Several restaurants offers mogodu and you could make a choice on where to have a try, for those who prefer to leave the experimenting to restaurants.
If you set foot on South African soil, don't leave before you've enjoyed a traditional Shisha Nyama, as much for the barbecued South African food for the cultural experience. You would want to try the Gatsby or the bunny chow after that.

Fisherman soup (also called Native soup) is popular in the South South zone of Nigeria and everyone loves it. I call Fisherman's soup a seafood lover's delight as it is filled with a variety of seafood. When making this soup no sea food is too much or too little to be left included; the more the merrier. Fisherman soup/ Native soup pairs well with every kind of swallow though pounded yam and fufu would top the chart while eba/garri would be my least favourite to pair with the amazing Fisherman soup. I have no doubt in my mind that you are going to be making this Fisherman's soup/ Native soup over and over again. Remember to share this awesome find with everyone.

Ingredients for Fisherman soup/Native soup

3 large snails
5 pieces Fish (I used Barracuda)
3 large Crabs and crab leg
1 cup Ngolo ( Whelk)
3 Jumbo Prawns
seasoning cubes to taste
salt to taste
1/4 cup minced onions
1/2 cup palm oil
Scotch bonnet peppers (yellow and red)
1 heaped tablespoon ground ofor (thickner)
1/2 cup ground crayfish'
2 ground uziza feeds
uziza leaves
1 teapoon cameroon pepper
