MEMORISE

     But those who desire to be rich ful Into temptation and a snare and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdicion (1 Timothy 6:9)

READ

Proverbs 30:7-9

[7]. Two things I request of You (Deprive me not before I die):

[8]. Remove falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches— feed me with the food allotted to me;

[9]. Lest I be full and deny You, and say, “Who is the Lord?” Or lest I be poor and steal, and profane the name of my God.

[10]. Do not malign a servant to his master, lest he curse you, and you be found guilty.

EXPOSITION

      You can choose not to end up like poor Lazarus, who suffered from poverty and the rich man, who failed to be rich towards God (Lk. 12:21ff). Their fates were not dictated by wealth, or poverty but by their dispositions (Lk. 16:19ff). Poverty can be devastating, but godless wealth also kills. Agur's request for neither poverty nor riches is wise. God wants us to avoid the pitfalls of loving money (1 Tim. 6:10). Just as holiness and poverty, or ungodliness and riches, don't intersect, desiring any to the extreme should be avoided (Lk. 16:19-31). Serving both God, and money is impossible; choosing to serve God and money will only serve your purposes (Matt. 6:24). If God blesses you with wealth, use it as a tool to serve God and uplift others (1 Tim. 6:17-19). Let your wealth be a means to advance God's kingdom, not a source of independence, or distraction from Him (Matt. 6:33). Don't allow your wealth send you to hell.
