Learn French phrases with this 13-minute French language lesson for beginners. French pronunciation can be difficult, so our native French speaker pronounced these 100 phrases slow and easy. Watching and listening to French speakers is one of the easiest ways to learn how to speak French fast, so start with with 100 Easy French Phrases lesson.
Most of the French phrases in this lesson use the informal "you": Tu. However, there are a few French phrases that are more commonly said in formal/polite situations, like when asking for help. "Can you help me?" is translated as "Pouvez-vous m'aider?" "Vous" is the formal "you" in French. Another situation where formal language is often used is retail/service situations. Some examples from the video: "L'addition, s'il vous plaît." ("The bill, please.") "Comment souhaitez-vous payer?" ("How would you like to pay?") When speaking to someone older than you, it is best to use formal language, regardless of the situation.

Waldorf education is based on the principles of Anthroposophy by Rudolf Steiner. Rudolf Steiner founded the first school in 1919 Stuttgart Germany to educate the children of the factory workers from the Waldorf Astoria Zigaretten Fabrik - hence the name. All kids, independent of social status or talent received the same instruction, which made the school a pioneer of social justice in education.
The goal of Waldorf education is to develop free, but morally responsible individuals equipped with a high degree of social competence and creative capabilities. Factual knowledge, homework and tests scores receive less attention. Storytelling and experimentation are the main method of instruction, textbooks are being avoided.
Over the twelve-year curriculum, students learn math, literature, history, and science as well as a wide variety of arts and hands-on skills. Elementary students paint, knit, weave and sculpt with wax. Older ones make patterns, books, pottery and sculpt in stone. Everybody learns to do music. First all play the flute, then some play string instruments and others join the choir.
Students play non-competitive games and learn to dance eurhythmy. They do organic farming and learn two foreign languages, which in the first years are taught through songs, storytelling, and conversations. In grades 8 and 12, the entire class develops a classical drama that they perform in front of their parents and friends.
Waldorf uses a unique project-based approach to almost all main academic subjects. Instead of repetitive schedules, a specific subject, such as history, math, science or even gardening dominates the first two hours in the morning for a period of 4-6 weeks. After that, a new subject gets the main focus.
Steiner also invented an experiential approach to science whereby students observe and later describe scientific concepts in their own words and drawings rather than learning about them in a textbook first. Waldorf schools, therefore, consider computers useful to children only in their teens, after they have mastered fundamental, time-honored ways of discovering information and learning.
In the spirit of personal development and empathy, competition and grades are being avoided. Teachers instead assess the student’s individual growth of character. Test scores and grades are only slowly introduced to older students as they prepare for college and entrance exams.
Today there are over a thousand Waldorf schools in 60 countries, making it one of the largest independent school movements. Waldorf has become a recognized educational theory in Europe, and its schools have received state funding.
The Philippines has a educational crisis as reported by numerous independent groups.

CNBC Marathon explores if why the education system in the U.S. is struggling by taking a hard look at the Common Core, teacher’s salaries and sex education.
First implemented in 2009, Common Core was an ambitious initiative to revolutionize the American education system. National leaders from Bill Gates to President Obama supported the idea and it cost an estimated $15.8 billion to implement. Years later, research showed the new curriculum had minimal impact on student performance. So why did Common Core fail? Can a common curriculum be successful for all students?
At the same time, teachers earn nearly 20% less than other professionals with similar education and experience, according to the Economic Policy Institute. In many states, their wages are below the living wage, forcing teachers to seek secondary jobs to supplement their income or leave the profession all together. So why are teachers paid so little and how can the U.S. fix that?
And the majority of U.S. students report they've had sex before graduation, which means the type of sex education they receive can be a big deal, for themselves personally and for the economy. The federal government doesn't have any official regulations for what schools must include in sex education curriculum, which has lead to inconsistent lessons across the country. Watch the video above to learn why sex education is so crucial for the economy and what happens when some students are left behind.
CNBC Marathon brings together the best of CNBC’s education coverage on YouTube.

If Everything was Free:
There would be no need to work and earn money anymore.
Some people might start eating a lot of free food, they may grow huge in size.
Banks may start keeping their lockers open.
People who have a lot of money may not know what to do with it anymore.
Offices might get empty, entertainment parks might get full.
People who just bought something very expensive will be shell shocked.
Diamond shops might get empty very very soon.
Security guards may have to find a new profession.
Thieves might get extremely bored.
Even Aliens might shift to planet Earth.

Nightmares are disturbing dreams that generate feelings of fear and anxiety, abruptly awakening us. On waking, we feel our heart pounding and can usually recollect the nightmare. Nightmares usually occur during the REM stage of sleep. Even though they are more common in children, many adults also experience them.
There could be multiple reasons behind nightmares. Having late-night snacks increases our metabolism, triggering more brainwaves and causing nightmares. Certain medications like blood pressure medications, antidepressants, etc. can also cause nightmares. Also, if we are sleep deprived or have certain sleep disorders, this can also lead to nightmares. Stress and anxiety can also lead to adult nightmares. People who have experienced a huge trauma or are suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder can also suffer from nightmares. Thus, eating healthy, sleeping on a schedule and staying stress-free can help us stay away from nightmares.

Montessori Education is based on the principles developed by Maria Montessori, who opened her first school for children of low-income workers in an apartment building in Rome in 1907. The school was called “Casa Dei Bambini”, Home for Children.
This first “Casa” was furnished with a teacher's table, a stove, a blackboard, some chairs, group tables for the children and a cabinet filled with materials that Montessori developed in her earlier career when she researched how to teach kids who experience some form of mental disability.
Maria Montessori created the materials after she realized that students seem to understand complex concepts better when they engaged all their senses.
Activities at this first school included personal care (such as dressing and undressing), care of the environment like sweeping, dusting and gardening. Otherwise, they were free to move around and play with the materials. Montessori did not teach herself but instead oversaw the classroom work of her teachers.
Montessori observed that children showed episodes of deep concentration and multiple repetitions of the same activity. Given free choice, kids showed more interest in practical activities and the materials than normal toys, sweets or other rewards. Over time spontaneous self-discipline emerged.
Montessori concluded that working independently children seemed to reach new levels of autonomy and become self-motivated learners. She began to see the role of the teacher as a facilitator of young human beings who are free to move and act within the limits of a prepared environment. The goal: to grow children to become independent and responsible adults who share a love for learning.
Soon after Montessori herself and her ideas started traveling the world to inspired progressive thinkers and educators from all over. The inventors, Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Edison, became early advocates. Later alumni include Jimmy Wales from Wikipedia, author Gabriel Garcia Marquez as well as the two Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
Today the term “Montessori” stands more for a method, than a school itself. The fact that it can be used freely by anyone led to a great variation of schools. Educators all over the world borrow Montessori's name, insights, and materials to organize kindergartens, elementary schools, special needs programs, or even full 12-year curriculums. Some parents use it for homeschooling.
The following characteristics are shared among most programs:
- Students are free to choose what to learn
- Open classrooms that allow free movement
- Use of specialized Montessori materials
- Mixed-age classes (from 0-3, 3-6 or 6-12) so children can learn from each other
- Uninterrupted blocks of study time, usually three hours
- No grading or homework
- and a trained teacher
Maria Montessori once famously said: “Never help a child with a task at which he feels he can succeed.”What are your thoughts on Montessori? Please share your opinions in the comments below!

Text by Nicholas Kristof
Around the world we talk a good game about the importance of education, but we rarely act as if we mean it.
Here’s an unlikely exception: Sierra Leone, one of the world’s most impoverished countries. In the video above, I travel to Sierra Leone to chronicle that country’s campaign to get all children in school — and then to get them to actually learn to read, even in ramshackle schools with no electricity or plumbing.
The children broke my heart and also inspired me. If Sierra Leone can do this, other countries can — and surely the United States can emulate that same determination to help every child learn.
This education revolution in Sierra Leone is the brainchild of President Julius Maada Bio and his youthful minister of education, David Sengeh. A Harvard graduate, Sengeh was working for IBM when President Bio asked him to come home and help his country — but now they face a test. Nationwide elections will be held late this month, with Bio campaigning for another term.
I wrote a column (https://www.nytimes.com/2023/0....5/24/opinion/educati about what we can learn from Sierra Leone — and about the ways the revolution still falls short: Children are sometime beaten for failing to pay school fees that are in fact illegal. Despite these failings, what I take away most is the hope reverberating through the nation. The world, in short, has much to learn from this nation’s determination to give every child an education. See it for yourself in this short film.

Our democracy and economy depend on the strength of our education system. We must ensure that our public schools have the resources needed to make public schools, schools of choice. Jayne Ellspermann has focused her career in education on helping others exceed their own perceived potential. Her innovative practices and resulting successes earned her both state and national recognition and in 2015 she was named National Principal of the Year by NASSP. She works with schools and school districts throughout the country to create positive learning environments, push past barriers, and empower learners by focusing on leadership development for students, teachers, and administrators. Firstly, submarines would lose one of their biggest advantages, anybody will be able to spot them.
Secondly, predators will probably increase in number, it will be difficult for fishes to hide, there will be complete chaos everywhere.
Thirdly, temperature of oceans will rise as transparent oceans mean more sunlight, this might be good news for plants which perform photosynthesis but very bad news for much of marine life which will not be able to adjust to this increase in temperature.
Fourthly, it might prove to be a double-edged sword, while hidden treasures might reveal themselves but at the same time tons and tons of human generated waste hidden inside oceans will suddenly become visible.
Lastly, marine life which has evolved in darkness might find it difficult to adopt.

Today we’ll explore the history of education as a social institution, with a specific focus on how the US organizes its educational system. We’ll look at education through the lenses of some sociological paradigms: structural functionalist approaches (including some of the manifest and latent functions associated with education), and a symbolic interactionist approach to education that shows us how self-fulfilling prophecies in educational settings contribute to differences in academic outcomes for students.
