A late equaliser saw 10-man Fulham claim a 2-2 draw at Emirates Stadium, after we had fought back from a goal down to get ourselves in front.
The topsy-turvy affair started when Andreas Pereira stunned the home crowd when he netted within the first minute, but a second-half fightback saw Bukayo Saka score from the spot, and two minutes later Eddie Nketiah tucked home a Fabio Vieira cross to turn the game on its head.
Calvin Bassey was then dismissed for the Cottagers, but they still managed to hit back through Joao Palhinha with just four minutes remaining.
Things started in the worst possible fashion when after just 57 seconds, we fell behind. A loose pass by Saka was pounced upon by Pereira, and the Brazilian surprised Aaron Ramsdale by shooting first-time from 25 yards and seeing the ball curl into the net via the near post.
It took us some time to recover from that setback, and we mustered just a tame Gabriel Martinelli attempt before we nearly fell two goals behind.
With the ball bouncing inside our arena Raul Jimenez produced an acrobatic effort to hook the ball goalwards and saw it drop just the right side of the post from a home perspective, before Harry Wilson drilled wide soon after as Fulham continued to pose problems.
As the weather turned from a sunny summer’s day to torrential rain, the visitors soon found themselves soaking up plenty of pressure as we slowly found our rhythm. Saka saw a downward header from close range clear the crossbar before Leno shovelled a Martinelli drive around the near post, and then the Brazilian shot tamely at him again as our search for an equaliser continued.
We thought it had arrived when Havertz seemed to have sprung the offside trap and teed up Martin Odegaard to fire into the bottom corner but the offside flag rightly halted our celebrations, before the skipper tried his luck from further out but Leno did well to catch as the thunder and lightning greeting the half-time whistle.
The second 45 began with Bobby DeCordova-Reid bending a shot just wide of the far post, and soon after Arteta shuffled his pack by introducing Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Vieira, having also thrown on Nketiah at the break.
From that point onwards, we looked much more menacing in attack with Odegaard twice twisting and turning in trademark fashion to get shots away but without causing Leno too many difficulties as we ramped up the pressure.
And midway through the second half, Fulham finally cracked as we netted two goals in two minutes. Martinelli trickled a pass through for Vieira to run onto inside the box, and he was felled by a sliding tackle by Kenny Tete to hand us the chance to equalise from 12 yards. Unlike at Crystal Palace on Monday night, Saka opted to take it and despite a long delay, he kept his cool to send Leno the wrong way.
Moments later, things got even better when Odegaard won the ball back high up the pitch and Saka produced a delicious pass out to Vieira, whose inch-perfect centre was tucked home by Nketiah to elicit a roar from the Emirates Stadium crowd louder than the thunder clapping around north London.
As the visitors attempted to respond, their efforts were made harder on 84 minutes when Bassey was sent off for a second bookable offence after blocking off Nketiah as we attempted to counter, but three minutes later they managed to pull level again.
After winning a corner, the 10 men regrouped and Harrison Reed’s delivery found Palhinha in space, and he struck the ball past the despairing dive of Ramsdale to equalise against the odds.
Nine minutes of stoppage-time were added but the hosts nearly snatched it when Adama Traore raced through to go one-on-one with Ramsdale but our shot-stopper stayed big and managed to block the effort to deny Fulham their first-ever away win at our expense.
And in the final seconds, Leno had to tip over a fierce Vieira shot from the edge of the area to ensure a pulsating game ended level.

A topsy-turvy encounter saw the first north London derby of the season end in a draw, despite us twice taking the lead at Emirates Stadium
Cristian Romero had an afternoon to forget for Tottenham as he inadvertently sent a Bukayo Saka shot into his own goal after 26 minutes, but Son Heung-min would pull his side level before the break.
Not long after the restart Saka tucked home a VAR-assisted penalty following a Romero handball, but in the following minute the South Korean straight away responded with his second of the game to ultimately earn a point for his team.
Amidst a crackling atmosphere at Emirates Stadium, we began brighest, pressing our opponents with menace and snapping into tackles to try and get the early upper hand, and it worked.
After a brief early scare when Son found the net from an obvious offside position, we began creating chances and a superb reaction stop from Guglielmo Vicario prevented Gabriel Jesus from firing home a Saka cross, whose direct running caused Spurs left-back Destiny Udogie to pick up an early booking for persistent fouling within the opening 15 minutes.
The young defender was rattled and soon after his weak backpass allowed Eddie Nketiah to sneak behind him and blast straight at Vicario from a tight angle, but the pressure told on 26 minutes when the lead was finally seized.
The move began when Oleksandr Zinchenko broke up a Spurs attack on the left and charged forward before finding Martin Odegaard who switched the ball to Saka on the right. In trademark fashion, he cut inside and took aim, and saw his curler diverted into his own goal by Romero to get all Gooners celebrating and reward our positivity.
Spurs were shellshocked and were being forced into making mistakes all over the pitch. They should have been punished again six minutes later when James Maddison was caught napping on the edge of his own box and Odegaard slipped in Jesus, but the Brazilian blazed a golden chance over the bar.
And that missed proved really costly as Spurs capitalised on that let-off to produce a flurry of chances at the end of the half that would eventually yield their equaliser. On 38 minutes Dejan Kulusevski probed down the right and Son’s overlap created what seemed to be a certain goal for Brennan Johnson, however David Raya produced the first highlight of his Arsenal career by racing across his goalline to claw the ball to safety.
But he couldn’t quite keep his sheet clean moments later when Spurs did find the net. The Spaniard did well to prevent a looping cross from sneaking under his crossbar and then denied Johnson again from close range, but a weak clearance led to Maddison escaping from Saka, and Son - the only player aged 30 or more on the pitch - used his experience to sneak in between three defenders to divert the cutback into the far corner.
If the first 45 minutes was a pulsating affair, then the opening 10 minutes after the restart showed that the second would be just as nail-biting, despite us taking the lead again on 54 minutes.
Saka sent a corner into the area that dropped in the box, and Ben White saw a shot on the turn blocked by Romero’s arm. Following a lengthy VAR check, a record 25th penalty in this fixture in the Premier League was awarded and Saka slammed it down the middle of Vicario’s goal to put us back in front.
But that lead was wiped out just 98 seconds later when half-time introduction Jorginho was caught on the ball by Maddison who broke through and slipped a pass into Son to roll past Raya and put his team level for the second time.
Searching for a hat-trick, Son then saw an effort deflect off the sliding William Saliba into the side-netting to send Gooners’ hearts fluttering, but by now the game had turned into a slugfest with both teams battling away in midfield to try and establish superiority, which neither could quite find.
As the game entered 10 minutes of stoppage time, we were in the ascendancy as the visitors seemed content with their point, and we nearly nicked it when a corner reached Saka on the edge of the box, he skidded a low effort towards the bottom corner but Vicario managed to push it around his post.
Then in the final seconds, Kulusevski teed up Richarlison who saw his attempt deflect just wide of the target, as both teams had to settle for a draw.

Injury-time goals from Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus gave us a dramatic late comeback win at Emirates Stadium.
Marcus Rashford had fired the visitors ahead on 27 minutes with their first attack, only for Martin Odegaard to immediately crash home a leveller.
Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka both spurned good chances – either side if the interval – and the second-half had been dominated by two big VAR interventions. The first revered a penalty decision, when it appeared Havertz had been fouled, the second ruled out a late United goal for offside.
But the real drama was yet to come. A corner fell to Rice at the far post in the 96th minute, and he controlled on his chest before crashing home his shot inside the near post.
Emirates Stadium was bouncing, and with virtually the last kick of the game Jesus raced away to add a late third on the break.

It was to be a day of frustration for the defending Premier League champions.
Wolves had played well in a number of games without luck this season, but today they rode their luck - as well as playing out of their skin.
Pedro Neto's cross was turned past Ederson by Ruben Dias in the first-half as City struggled to create any clear-cut chances.
With so many key players missing, the Blues were far from their fluent best but still kept plugging away until Julian Alvarez levelled with a superb free-kick.
However, it was Wolves who grabbed the third goal of the game when Hee-chan - who many felt should have been dismissed for second bookable offence - prodded home from close range eight minutes later.

Gabriel Martinelli’s late deflected strike gave us a huge win against Champions Manchester City at Emirates Stadium.
In a game with little goalmouth action throughout, it was left to substitute Martinelli – on his first appearance since the middle of September – to score the only goal of the game, and move us above Pep Guardiola’s men in the table.
It ended a run of 12 consecutive defeats against City, and it’s a victory that could yet prove significant come the end of the season.
As usual, the atmosphere inside Emirates Stadium was electric at kick off. Both sides knew top spot in the Premier League was up for grabs.
It was the visitors who had the first sight of goal. From their first corner of the afternoon, Josko Gvardiol hooked goalwards, but Declan Rice was well placed to head off the line. The danger was not cleared though, until Nathan Ake blazed over when the ball fell to him inside the area.
It was a big let off early on, and there was another on the quarter hour. We were playing the ball around at the back, but David Raya spent just too long in possession, Julian Alvarez closed him down and the keeper’s attempted clearance clattered against the Argentine and just wide of his own post.
We needed to get into the game, and Eddie Nketiah did well to work a shooting opportunity inside the area, but flashed his effort wide.
We began to come back into the game, the intensity increased and there was a flashpoint when Mateo Kovacic dived in late on Martin Odegaard. He was only shown a yellow card, despite a VAR review.
Within minutes the Croatian then fouled Declan Rice with a similar lunge, but to the amazement of the Emirates faithful, the referee kept his cards in his pocket.
We were having our best spell of the half, and Alex Zinchenko had two speculative shots from the edge of the area blocked.
Mikel Arteta introduced Gabriel Martinelli for the second half, the Brazilian returning to action after missing the last five games with injury.
He took up his usual position on the left, replacing Leandro Trossard, with Gabriel Jesus on the opposite flank. After a run of 87 consecutive appearances in the Premier League, Bukayo Saka was not involved at all.
Martinelli struck our first shot on target five minutes after coming on. He was set up by Declan Rice, but the angle was always against him.
The pace of the game began to drop, and chances were scarce for either side. As we entered the final 15 minutes, Arteta made a triple change, bringing on Kai Havertz, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Thomas Partey.

Tomiyasu laid off a long pass to Havertz just inside the area, who in turn passed back to Martinelli. His shot was on target, but completely wrong-footed Ederson when it smashed off Nathan Ake’s face.
The Emirates erupted. We had barely been troubled at the back, but now we had a lead to see out.
We managed it without much cause for alarm, to extend our unbeaten start in the Premier League, and finally get one over last season’s treble-winners.
