For Native Americans, putting dinner on the table was a terrifying, oftentimes death-defying, and always full-time job. While many of their foods aren't even around anymore, others have cropped up as trendy new dining options. This is what Native Americans ate every day before Europeans came.

While the Clovis likely weren't the first people to set foot on American soil, they were responsible for some of the earliest settlements, and they were such good hunters they've been blamed for the mass extinction of one of their favorite meals: The mammoth.

The rise of the Clovis does coincide with the downfall of the mammoths, along with other Pleistocene megafauna. Bones found across 19 Clovis sites suggest that while they were eating a lot of mammoth, they were also eating bison, mastodon, deer, rabbits, and caribou.

Their diet depended greatly on what was nearby, and megafauna seems to be the overwhelming preference. Clovis hunters in Mexico stalked the gomphotheres. As seen from this small section of a gomphothere jaw, they were massive, elephant-like creatures. They also went extinct during this period. In the far north they hunted something even more surprising: Camels. Camels roamed wide sections of what's now Canada, until the Clovis likely hunted them to extinction.

Watch the video for more about What Native Americans Actually Ate Before Europeans Came!

A delicacy is usually a rare or expensive food item that is considered highly desirable, sophisticated or peculiarly distinctive, within a given culture. Irrespective of local preferences, such a label is typically pervasive throughout a region. ... Delicacies vary per different countries, customs and ages.

Tocabe American Indian Eatery is the only Native American restaurant in the Denver area. As I hail from the East coast, specifically New Jersey, I have never been exposed ever to American Indian cuisine so for me it is the only Native American restaurant I have ever been to!

Native American food can include many different items, but Tocabe in Denver, CO specializes very much in fry bread. Fry bread is a staple in American indigenous food, and it has some controversial origins. Many people within the Native American community view Native American fry bread as representing oppression and tragedy, as it was invented out of necessity due to its ingredients consisting primarily of what the US government rationed to American Indians on reservations. To me though, food is always uplifting, and while we should never forget the dark aspects of history we can also see foods such as fry bread as a symbol of resilience and creativity in difficult times. For example budae jigae, also known as Korean army stew, after all was also created due to rationing and necessity but today Korean people still love to eat it and there are even restaurants that specialize in it.

No matter how you view the history however, my take is American Indian fry bread is delicious. Tocabe offers variations of the dish, such as stuffed fry bread recipes, however in this video I opted for the Indian taco. Also known as a Navajo taco to some, it is sort of like a Mexican huarache dish, with fry bread as an edible plate with delicious toppings on top. I opted for ground bison here. I also wound up getting some of the famous Tocabe bison ribs.

This is one of the most unique video topics I have ever done and I cannot wait to share this topic with you all. I hope you all learned a thing or two about the Tocabe Native American fast casual restaurant, as well as Native American food in general!

Hello and welcome to Old Ways Gardening and Prepping.🍀 Would like to welcome you each in to the woods by our home. It has been a long time since I have been able to make these war clubs and happy as can be.

Depending on the warriors preferences they would either use a stone or wooden headed war clubs. The wooden war clubs were lighter to carry long distances and were as deadly as the stone headed axes. As time went on and the trading with white settlers became more often the metal headed tomahawks replaced both prior war clubs. However some still held on to the traditional war clubs and didn't like the metal made tomahawks. At some powwows you will still see more Traditional dancers carrying the old version of war clubs.

Hope this video encourages you to also try your hands at making your own wooden war clubs. If you have any questions please feel free to ask them in the comment section below I will answer them as soon as possible. Everyone take care and have a blessed day. ❤️🍀🦉

The creativity with which Native American groups brought ingredients together reflected an awareness of and respect for the environment. When it comes to what kind of foods Native Americans ate in the past, their meals were often about both sustenance and ceremony.

Native American groups thrived on staple foods like corn, beans, and squash. When available, meat, fruit, and other vegetables were mixed in, not to mention roots and greens. Many foods Native Americans ate were high in fat, protein, and carbohydrates - intentionally loaded with nutrients in order to combat potential hardship and struggle. Food was also used for celebrating and bringing people together.

When people think of Australian food, meat pies and Vegemite come to mind. The truth is, Indigenous Australians have been baking bread and cultivating and harvesting native ingredients for more than 60,000 years. With a dark history of colonialism and displacement, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island knowledge of native foods is at risk of disappearing. Thankfully people like Nornie Bero are sharing ancient ingredients in modern restaurant and cafe settings. All we have to do is eat, listen and learn.

Nothing quite blows your mind as much as the combination of Fisherman soup and some hot fluffy pounded yam. Fisherman soup (also called Native soup) is popular in the South South zone of Nigeria and everyone loves it. I call Fisherman's soup a seafood lover's delight as it is filled with a variety of seafood. When making this soup no sea food is too much or too little to be left included; the more the merrier. Fisherman soup/ Native soup pairs well with every kind of swallow though pounded yam and fufu would top the chart while eba/garri would be my least favourite to pair with the amazing Fisherman soup. I have no doubt in my mind that you are going to be making this Fisherman's soup/ Native soup over and over again. Remember to share this awesome find with everyone.

Ingredients for Fisherman soup/Native soup

3 large snails
5 pieces Fish (I used Barracuda)
3 large Crabs and crab leg
1 cup Ngolo ( Whelk)
3 Jumbo Prawns
seasoning cubes to taste
salt to taste
1/4 cup minced onions
1/2 cup palm oil
Scotch bonnet peppers (yellow and red)
1 heaped tablespoon ground ofor (thickner)
1/2 cup ground crayfish'
2 ground uziza feeds
uziza leaves
1 teapoon cameroon pepper

5 of the best street foods in South A

Moving ahead from the scenic beauty and marvelous beauty of South Africa, the country also tops the arena of having the most affordable street food. A foodie traveler can find delicious and ready to eat food at every corner of the South African cities which are not only good in taste but also pocket-friendly. Today we bring you a round-up of some traditional South African street foods that celebrate the rainbow nation’s diverse culture and rich culinary heritage.

1. Bunny Chow
This is a very popular dish of South Africa and is loved by every local. This is not only a known street snack but is also included in the native foods of South Africa. A combination of bread and curry, this dish originated in the Durban Indian community and has made its way too many parts of South Africa. Bunny chow is widely eaten in India and can be found in some Indian restaurants in Cape Town.

2. Boerewors
A popular food in South Africa and was not only originated in South Africa but also in Zimbabwe. To qualify as Boerewors the dish must have at least 90% of meat. It is coiled shape and thicker than a sausage and is known to be derived from a type of sausage made in the south of Ardour River in France. It is made up of beef mince and also has coriander, cloves and nutmeg added to it.

3. Shisa Nyama
Shisa nyama, which literally means ‘burnt meat’ in Zulu, features a variety of BBQ meats – including boerewors, steak, chops, chicken and ribs, cooked on a braai. These grilled meats are usually served with a variety of accompaniments including the traditional mieliepap and chakalaka. A shisa nyama is usually done at parties, in someone’s backyard with a large gathering of friends around a braai, but even at that several restaurants in South Africa also offer shisa nyama.

5. Gatsby
This ultimate Capetonian classic foot-long sub is what sandwich dreams are made of. Ideal for sharing, the gatsby comprises a wide variety of fillings including chicken, steak, seafood, polony or viennas, slap chips, salad, cheese, eggs and sauces. While not related to the movie, ‘Great Gatsby’, this monstrous baguette, could apparently be called the ‘great Gatsby’ for its size.

4. Mogodu
A slow-cooked tripe stew, mogodu is well loved across Africa and sometimes also includes cow or sheep intestines, which you can smell a mile away, cooking in a huge pot over an open fire in most townships across South Africa. Mogodu is usually served with pap or tiff. Several restaurants offers mogodu and you could make a choice on where to have a try, for those who prefer to leave the experimenting to restaurants.
If you set foot on South African soil, don't leave before you've enjoyed a traditional Shisha Nyama, as much for the barbecued South African food for the cultural experience. You would want to try the Gatsby or the bunny chow after that.

Hello Fam, In this video here , I thought of preparing my best meal. Local chicken stew served with ugali and 'Managu' .'Managu' is a Kenyan Traditional vegetable loved by many because of its taste and health benefits, Its locally available. and considered in any special occasions as one of the traditional recipes. in modern life they do it in s different style thus not overboiling to maintain its green color, but for this I did it the traditional way ,by boiling till it browns and adding milk to it and some taste of ghee as well. For the Native chicken believe me the taste and the feeling of eating chicken makes it complete n then I serve it with brown 'Ugali'. Kindly if you are a lover of Ugali plz try out this and don't hesitate to like the video. African food is the world's least popular cuisine. In terms of adoption, two schools of thought emerge: first, the worst offenders are Africans who refuse to have anything to do with their food. Second, concerns of colonialism and slavery influenced the unfavourable impression of African food as well as the adoption of other cultures’ cuisines. English food is popular in Zimbabwe, yet French food is popular in Francophone countries such as Mali and Senegal. It's worth noting that colonisers not only plundered native foods but also undermined local food systems and traditions.

Culinary schools in Zimbabwe and Africa, in general, take a proactive approach to teach European cuisine, with just a little amount of time devoted to local cuisines. Culinary schools in Africa continue to teach European cuisine, even though the decolonisation paradigm is a popular topic among academics. Wouldn't it be great if these institutions began teaching African food for most of the year and devoted one week to European cuisine? Same with how the corporate world appreciates African Food when It’s Africa Day or Heritage Day in South Africa. Shouldn’t this be a normal practice for Africans?

Furthermore, African foods are easier to come by in townships than in the core business areas of Zimbabwe's big cities. South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, and other African countries are in the same boat. It is very easy to find non-local cuisine in Bulawayo CBD, but you will have to go a little deeper if you want to find native delicacies. The same is true for flights, buses, hotels, and schools. In these places, it's difficult to find any traces of traditional meals. A visitor from London has a 99 percent probability of having an English breakfast in a Nyanga hotel. The same cannot be said for someone traveling from Namibia's Kunene Region to New York and expecting to see a serving of Oshuungu. This raises the question of what kind of food is appropriate for consumption in public settings.

Young people must rise and embrace their culinary heritage in the future. Young people must be appreciative and proud of their food, and without their support, Africa's culinary legacy may be lost forever. Knowledge about indigenous food preparation must be preserved among adults, particularly grandparents, village elders, and historians. It will be difficult to have any meaningful conservation If there is no meaningful data. As proponents of their own culture, African Food must be firstly embraced by Its people. Its people should be proud of eating and carrying local dishes.

Nobody wants to witness an African Chef from Malawi presenting French Cuisine at an international cooking competition (like the current Olympics in Japan). Malawian cuisine is something that people would like to see. Something has to change, as such thinking suggests. Furthermore, the future African food industry should have a high level of UBUNTU - 'I am because we are' - food preparation that is in line with human connectivity and nature. In the future, Africa will require a new food system. One for Africa and all African nationals. One that brings our societies, cultures, values, and livelihoods back to life.

Returning to these traditional techniques is difficult, but it is the only healthy alternative we have in the future.

This video deals with foods that are associated with Indigenous American and African Moorish cultures. The fact that many melanated people have been stripped of most of their culture including diet. This video will demonstrate the need to reconnect with our foods and culture. AFRICANS in American die younger than European Americans because their diet is not suited for melanated people. When they enslaved you did they take away your food?

Exploring the Richness of African Cuisine and Traditional Foods

Africa is a continent rich in culture, diversity, and cuisine. From the north to the south, east to west, there are a variety of traditional foods and dishes that reflect the Continents unique history, geography, and culture.
African cuisine is known for its bold flavors, spices, and unique ingredients that have been passed down from generation to generation.

In many African cultures, food is a way of bringing people together, strengthening family bonds, and celebrating important events.

Let's take a closer look at some of the most popular and delicious traditional foods from across the continent.

1. In West Africa, dishes like Jollof Rice, Fufu, and Egusi Soup are staples. Jollof Rice, a one-pot dish made with rice, tomatoes, onions, and a variety of spices, is considered the national dish of many West African countries. Fufu, a starchy dough made from cassava, plantains, or yams, is often served with soup or stew. Egusi Soup, made from ground melon seeds and vegetables, is a flavorful and hearty dish that's popular across the region.

2. In East Africa, Ugali, Chapati, and Nyama Choma are popular. Ugali, a staple food in Kenya and Tanzania, is made from maize flour and water and is often served with vegetables, meat, or fish. Chapati, a flatbread made from wheat flour and oil, is a common side dish in many East African countries. Nyama Choma, a dish of grilled meat, is a popular and beloved dish in East Africa, especially in Kenya.

3. In South Africa, Braai, Bobotie, and Biltong are some of the most beloved dishes. Braai, the South African version of a barbecue, is a social gathering where meat, often lamb, beef, or boerewors (a type of sausage), is grilled over an open flame. Bobotie, a savory dish made with minced meat, eggs, and spices, is considered the national dish of South Africa. Biltong, a type of dried meat, is a popular snack that's similar to beef jerky.

Log Horizon remains one of the best anime I've ever watched, and part of the reason for that is because the world of Elder Tale is actually important to the story that is being told. Log Horizon's Greatest Strength is that the systems that it's fantasy setting creates are utilized by the characters and we as the audience begin to care as much about the world and it's systems as we do about the things that those systems affect - AKA everything. To trace how this evolution happens we'll be taking a look from initial instance to logical conclusion, and breaking down why unification of desire and narrative questions is kinda the best thing ever.

Also there will be a proper thumbnail eventually - Drawplex is away for a bit so I'm either outsourcing or just going with youtube suggestions...the one that I made looks really bad.
