Sunday morning service
Sunday morning message from Shiloh Friends Church in Marysville Ohio.
Sermon from Pastor Jim Davis, Calvary Community Church, Twinsburg, Ohio, Aug 9, 2020.
Psalm 1
There are people who are saved; people who are not.
There are people who believe;
people who don’t.
...stand with Christ;
don’t stand with Christ.
...Godly, not Godly.
...those who walk with God;
those who do not walk with God.
...those who are rooted;
those who are chaff.
Blessed is the man who walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly...who doesn’t get advice from the ungodly or evil advice from well meaning people.
Blessed is the man who does not stand in way of (in direction of) sinners.
Blessed is the man if he does not sit in the seat of the scornful.
“Wisdom” of the world.
Meditate day and night.
You will delight in the law of the Lord when you delight in the Lord of the law.
Being planted vs being sown like seeds. Purposely planted by river(s) of water. Root structure can be fed by multiple rivers.
Testimony.
Security — all the way into eternity.
Chaff goes anywhere the wind blows it. Wheat is heavier — gets to the ground securely.
This is not a dress rehearsal. You are already on your way to eternity.
“Lord knows I tried”.
Lord also knows if you didn’t try.
I Timothy 2:15:
Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.

All the battles in the heart of man are attended by both heaven and hell.
Victory winning the big battle,
is usually caused by winning the small battles along the way.
Rev 13:8
The battle on the cross was won because the battle in Gethsemane was won.
Gethsemane was won because the battle in the wilderness was won.
The wilderness temptation was won because the Father's business was done in the temple.
The childhood ministry was started because Jesus was the lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
Great victories are built on the foundation of small victories.
Luke, the doctor, sees what others do not see.
The spiritual side of man.
Angels minister to Jesus
The physical side of man.
Sweaty blood - hematidrosis.
The weakness from stress.
Sleeping from sorrow.
The need for movement.
"Get up...rise..."
Jesus won for two reasons.
1. He wanted to please God.
2. He wanted to save you.

Notes - Exodus 20
God “has a word” with us through Exodus 20.
This is how God wants us to live.
Why the 10 Commandments? To make life hard for us?
Jews lived among pagans who had gods for everything; the Jews had one God.
Perfection?
Why doesn’t God just accept us the way we are?
He sent Jesus Christ to change the way we are & who we are.
I Peter 1:16 - Be holy.
Matthew 5:48
Sermon on the Mount - Be perfect.
What about deeds? Good outweighing the bad?
Problems can be solved if there’s a change in the heart.
Lovenover hate.
A spiritual problem.
Discrimination is solved via this love over hate.
Sin is the problem.
The great separation between man and God.
You and God - a vertical relationship - gives you the ability to correctly have a relationship horizontally between you and your fellow man.
When things go wrong or you hurt someone,
1. Apologize
2. What can I do for you?
Shuv = to return (Hebrew)
Nacham = feel sorrow (Hebrew)
Netanoia = after, perceiving (Greek)
(Think differently after)
Sin has warped our perception of love and evaluation of right and wrong.
The Ten Commandments:
Here is how being set free from bondage will work best for you.
1. I love you. If you love Me back, don’t bring anyone else into the relationship with Me.
2. Don’t ignore me for trinkets that represent me.
3. Don’t use my name to speak of a relationship between us yet live like it doesn’t exist.
4. Set aside special time for us.
5. Respect those who took care of you.
6. Life is sacred. The spark of life comes from God.
7. Don’t cheat; learn to keep a covenant.
8. Don’t take what doesn’t belong to you.
9. Don’t lie.
10. Don’t connive you take away what others have.
John 19:31-37
Every scene on Calvary tells a story.
Even after Jesus is dead, the blood still flows.
The bruises blacken, the swelling begins to close his eyes, his face distorts to a mass of unrecognizable flesh as he trudges along the via dolorosa.
Mary would not have known her son had she not followed him.
Isaiah 53:2-6
Isaiah 52:14
Heb 9:11-15
Lev 17:11
The word "blood" is mentioned 22 times in Hebrews alone, yet,
Bible translations omit it,
many hymnals have dropped it,
publishers don't want to print it,
preachers don't want to preach it,
listeners don't want to hear it.
"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13
Blood has always been the most valued currency.
It has sealed marriages, brotherhoods and covenants.
God has covenanted with himself and us to bring forgiveness from his shed blood.
We had nothing to put into the covenant.
Ps 50:12
Vs 10,11
Heb 9:22
Rev 13:8
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. I John 1:9
Don't try to improve on that.

Pastor Jim Davis,
Is your life like this—“try, cry, sigh, die?"
Maybe at your best, life isn’t fair.
So when you die and meet God some day, will you just hope for the best?
What about when He asks you, “What did you do with my Son?”
Blaise Pascal, a theologian of the 1600’s: "There’s a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of each man."
Cop out: " I don’t discuss religion or politics."
They are the two most important subjects affecting our lives now and for all eternity.
You must accept the bad news before you can receive the good news.
Romans 3:23
Repent - be sorry that God had to send his son to die for our sins.
Repent accompanied by emotion.
Repent is to do an about-face. Turn.
Repent is to change mind, desires, willingness.
God is in charge.
God is the boss.
Wake up daily making Him Lord, asking, what you can do to put His Will first today.
Three things unique to humanity:
1. Intellect
2. Emotion
3. Will
Train’s destination?
If the train is on the way to Hell, but you think your ticket says Heaven (i.e. I've done more good than bad—isn’t that enough?),
you need to jump off the moving "train of life", even if you roll, bump, scrape and lose friends in the process. You will have made the escape from the wrong train car. You will have made a decision to not stay mindlessly riding life to a very wrong destination.
"I will get off this train, no matter the consequences. I will repent of my sins (intellectually, emotionally, and willfully). I will make Heaven my ultimate destination all because of God's grace toward me."
