After the abduction of about 300 school girls from Chibok, Borno State, the Federal Government in 2014 launched the SAFE SCHOOLS INITIATIVE as part of efforts to ensure that children in conflict areas or affected by insecurity continue with their education.

THE PLAN IS TO ACHIEVE THE FOLLOWING MILESTONE
Build and integrate security-resilient host communities in the protection of education.
Strengthen the detection, deterrence, and response capabilities of the security agencies
Equip school security, response and coordination centres in Abuja and the States
Regular engagements and policy advocacy with the Nigerian public and key government officials on the implementation of the national plan.

The initiative would be funded through annual budgetary provisions from federal, state and local governments interventionist agencies, foreign governments, Philanthropists and donor partners.

A TECHNICAL WORKING COMMITTEE WAS SET UP AND IT IS COMPOSED OF MEMBERS FROM THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION, NIGERIAN GOVERNORS FORUM, NIGERIAN POLICE FORCE, NIGERIA SECURITY AND CIVIL DEFENCE CORPS, DEPARTMENT OF STATES SERVICES, AND DEFENCE HEADQUARTERS.

Israel is continuing its massive mobilisation of hundreds of thousands of troops on the boundary with Gaza, ahead of a widely expected ground offensive into the territory.

The United Nations is calling for essential supplies to be allowed into Gaza, where the humanitarian situation is deteriorating rapidly, as Israel enforces a complete siege.

Gaza, which is home to more than two million people, is running short of power, food, water and medical supplies.

It follows the attack on Israel by Hamas militants who are now known to have killed at least 1,200 people in the assault.

It's believed that Hamas are holding more than 100 hostages in Gaza, who were seized during the raids in Israel.

More than 1,400 have been killed in Gaza since Israel launched retaliatory air strikes.

इसमें किसी के मरने या बंधक बनाए जाने की कहानी नहीं, बल्कि बच निकलने की क़िस्मत दिखती है. ये महिला कार के ट्रंक से कुछ निकाल रही थी, तो वो तेज़ी से भीतर भागने लगती है. तभी वहां हमास के लड़ाकों से भरी हुई गाड़ी पहुंचती है. इन हमलावरों के हाथों में बंदूकें दिख रही थीं और मक़सद था इसराइली लोगों को मारना. जब ये लड़ाके उतरकर इधर-उधर जाते हैं तब दो महिलाएं उसी जगह लौटती हैं और साथ ही एक इसराइली सैनिक भी नज़र आता है, जो हमास के हमलावरों का मुकाबला करता है. दोनों तरफ़ से हो रही गोलीबारी के बीच महिलाएं जान बचाने के लिए कार के नीचे छिपने की कोशिश करती हैं. कुछ सेकेंड चली इस लड़ाई के बाद वहां इसराइल के और सैनिक पहुंचते हैं, और इन महिलाओं को सुरक्षित बचाने में कामयाब रहते हैं.

The Palestinian militant group Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on Israel on 7 October, with its fighters entering communities near the Gaza Strip, killing hundreds of people, and taking dozens of hostages.

The death toll in Israel from the Hamas attacks has reached 1,200 - while more than 1,100 people have been killed by Israeli air strikes on Gaza.

Gaza's only power station has shut down, after Israel cut off electricity supplies as well as goods including medicines, food, fuel and water.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military says hundreds of thousands of troops are near Gaza "ready to execute the mission we have been given".

The Israeli military has said no decision has been made yet on any ground incursion into Gaza but that they are preparing for it.

Hundreds of thousands of troops have massed near the Gaza border and are preparing for the order to move in.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has established a national emergency unity government alongside opposition leader Benny Gantz who said it was "a time for war".

Part of the calculations being made by the new Israeli war cabinet must be the fate of the hostages taken by Hamas into Gaza.

Israel has said the siege of Gaza will not end until Israeli hostages are released.
