Welcome to PAATH History
Nomadic pastoralism was a result of the Neolithic revolution. Nomadic pastoralism is a form of pastoralism when livestock are herded in order to find fresh pastures on which to graze. After decades of research, scholars are more aware than ever of the challenges posed by this deceptively simple question— what was the relationship between pastoral nomadic tribes and sedentary peoples? By the 1960s, it had become clear that despite intermittent antagonism, farmers and mobile pastoralists in fact participate in a symbiotic relationship. Furthermore, communities alternate between nomadism and sedentism, depending in part on the strength of the central authority. The 1970s and 1980s saw the emergence of a more integrated view of nomadic and sedentary encounters in the ancient world. This video deals with this debate and as well as with the nature of Nomadic Pastoralism.

The Scythians - a nomadic people who inhabited much of modern-day Central Asia and Siberia were known to be the fiercest warriors of their day, defeating large empires and debuting a style of warfare that would be adopted by subsequent nomadic empires such as the Huns or Mongols.

What we know about the Scythians comes from archeology and written sources of the peoples neighboring the Scythians, as they themselves left no written records. The Greek Historian Herodotus provides us a rich account of Scythian life, as well as their many military exploits in the Middle East during the 7th century BC.

In this video, we will be exploring the Scythian civilization and its impact on the world stage.

With the calm and pleasant sound of the river waters, a nomadic man says goodbye to his beloved wife Fatemeh, his daughter Asiyeh, and his twins Kianoush and Kiaresh with energetic and determined steps. He has decided to go fishing and achieve deep relaxation in the embrace of nature with the waters of the river.

Just a few minutes after reaching the destination, his eyes fall on a moving basket on the water. He hears the sound of a child crying from inside the basket. This voice shakes his heart and increases the need to save this innocent child inside him.

Without hesitation, the nomad made a great effort to save this brave child. He dropped his fishing gear and pursued the basket with strength and determination. He jumped over the big stones of the river and crossed a winding path. Along the way, he did his best to avoid losing the basket. And finally, after a few kilometers of chase, he succeeds and brings the child to safety.

Despite the fatigue and the dangers he has gone through, the nomadic man cannot abandon the child. He steps towards the family. When he returns home, he hears the happy voices of his beloved wife Fatemeh, his daughter Asieh, and his twins Kianoush and Kiaresh.

At first, everyone wonders why the man returned alone and left his fishing gear. But when they get the letter that was with the child in the basket and read it, everything becomes clear. The letter contained references to the inability of the child's owner to take care of him and the nomadic man's decision to abandon the child. But the man's brave effort to save her and return to his family amazes and discourages everyone.

Fatima, the wife of a nomadic man, upon seeing her husband and child who has returned to safety, is filled with a smile of joy and opens her warm arms to them. Asiyah, his dear daughter, jumps into her daddy's arms with bright eyes of surprise and happiness, and her younger brothers are equally excited and happy.

In the arms of the family, the nomadic man feels that all the efforts and risks he took to save the child were valuable and beneficial. He understands with pride that family love is the strongest force that can withstand any challenge.

From that day on, the story of the bravery and endless love of the nomadic man to save the child in the arms of the river, remains as a living memory in their family. And this story always reminds them that in the face of difficulties, the solidarity and strength of the family can be the best support and capital that every person inherits.

The Scythians were a nomadic culture that flourished between the seventh and the third centuries BCE, as their territory expanded from Thrace in the west across the Central Asian Steppe (a steppe is basically just an open swathe of grassland), to the Altai mountains in Mongolia. Their name comes from the Greek “to shoot” as they were known for their skill in archery. Even their cousins, the Parthians--also famous mounted archers--were influenced by the Scythians.

What we understand about the Scythians has been built on the foundation of archaeological finds, especially since they left no written texts or records. Other than the archaeological trail of the Scythians, we also have texts surviving from the ancient world at the time they flourished, namely Akkadian cuneiform tablets and the writings of Herodotus. Since the Scythians were nomads, moving around regularly on horseback in tribes unlike most other ancient cultures in the first millennium BCE, they didn't leave any cities or settlements. The places where we find the most evidence of the Scythians is in their burial mounds known as kurgans, which were monumental burials for the elite of Scythian society.

The subject of the story of the life of Mr. Qurban and his small children in the mountains refers to the life of nomads in the mountainous lands, full of difficulties but full of meaning and hope.

In this story, we meet a nomadic family who go to the heart of the mountains with their herds every year when spring arrives. Mr. Ghorban, the father of the family, is a hardworking person and hopes that with the efforts and cooperation of his little children, they will build and renovate their temporary residence in the mountains.

This story depicts different aspects of nomadic life:

1. Empathy and participation in doing things: Mr. Ghorban and his children work together to build traditional stoves, awnings, and tents.

2. Mobility and nomadism: This family goes in search of new pastures in the mountains every year.

3. Simplicity: Nomadic life is devoid of luxuries and full of peace and satisfaction.

4. Hope and happiness: The sound of children's laughter and the spinning of wheels full of sheep's wool are part of the happy and meaningful life of this family.

Parvaneh, a strong-willed and resilient nomadic lady, found herself caught in a difficult and oppressive marriage to her husband, Ali. As a determined individual, she decided to take matters into her own hands and seek help from a lawyer to request a divorce.

Parvaneh had lived most of her life with the nomadic tribe, embracing their unique traditions and way of life. However, she had always dreamed of finding love, companionship, and the freedom to make her own choices. Unfortunately, her dreams turned into a nightmare when she married Ali, a man who upheld the archaic beliefs that women should be submissive and obedient.

Throughout the years, Parvaneh endured scathing remarks, emotional abuse, and even physical violence from her husband. Despite her attempts to reason with Ali, hoping to find a solution or change his ways, nothing improved in their relationship. Feeling trapped and disheartened, Parvaneh decided that she deserved better - a life free from fear and suffocation.

Taking a brave step forward, she approached a lawyer named Sarah for guidance and support. Sarah, a compassionate and empathetic professional, understood the complexities of the situation Parvaneh faced. She realized the importance of not only helping her client achieve a legal separation but also ensuring Parvaneh's safety and well-being during and after the process.

Sarah meticulously explained to Parvaneh the legal procedures involved in seeking a divorce. They discussed the grounds for divorce, which in this instance involved abusive behavior, neglect, and irreconcilable differences in their marriage. Parvaneh provided documentation and testimonies establishing the history of abuse, which further strengthened her case.

Together, they strategized on how to approach the divorce proceedings. Sarah assured Parvaneh that she would do everything within her power to fight for her rights and work towards her desired outcome. She remained the pillar of strength that Parvaneh desperately needed during this arduous journey.

The legal proceedings commenced, and Sarah tirelessly advocated for Parvaneh's rights in court. She presented the compelling evidence of abuse, ensuring that justice would be served and Parvaneh's voice would be heard.

Throughout the process, Sarah also connected Parvaneh with support networks and resources, such as shelters for abused women and counseling services. Recognizing the emotional toll that divorce can have, she encouraged Parvaneh to seek solace in these safe spaces, where she could begin to heal and rebuild her life.

Parvaneh's story began to resonate within the community, inspiring other silenced women to stand up against similar oppression. Undeterred by the challenges she faced, Parvaneh emerged as a symbol of strength and empowerment, providing hope to those living in fear and despair.

Finally, after a long and emotionally exhausting legal battle, the judge granted Parvaneh her divorce from Ali. It was a bittersweet victory, as she had fought so hard for her freedom but had also endured unimaginable suffering. However, Parvaneh's resilience and determination shone through, and she felt a renewed sense of purpose and liberation.

With Sarah's guidance, Parvaneh began a new chapter in her life, fulfilling the dreams she had long suppressed. She found solace in her nomadic tribe, as they embraced her and supported her journey toward independence. With a newfound appreciation for her autonomy, Parvaneh used her experience to advocate for the rights of women in abusive relationships, shedding light on this pervasive issue within her culture.

Parvaneh's story serves as a testament to the power of individual agency and the importance of allies like Sarah, who lend a helping hand in the quest for justice and freedom. Through her courage and determination, she not only reclaimed her own life but also influenced the lives of countless others, shifting the paradigm of gender roles and expectations within her nomadic community.

In this video we tell the full story of the tender ships SS Nomadic and SS Traffic, these vessels were built to service the Olympic Class Liners Olympic, Titanic, and eventually Britannic. However fate had other plans for these ships and there story is one worth telling.

One small correction in the video, at one point in the video both the nomadic and the traffic get renamed by a different company. The video shows text that says both the Nomadic and the Traffic get renamed the same name however that is incorrect. The Nomadic's new name is correctly shown in the video however the Traffic's new name is actually (Ingénieur Riebell).

In the heart of pristine and high mountains, the nomadic life of Mr. Ghorban and his family is going on. This family, like a reflection of an eternal saga, lives in the middle of a silent and glorious nature.

Agha Qorban is a hardworking shepherd who spends his days in the green plains and nights by the fire of his capers to earn a living for himself and his children. But for years, at night, it disturbs his peace; Zainab, his little daughter, is suffering from an illness and is in dire need of medical care.

Despite all this, Mr. Qurban and his wife, with all their strength and faith, are trying to improve the condition of their little daughter. They know that only with perseverance and love can they lead this exhausting migration to a bright future. In this difficult journey, they meditate on the top of the mountains and in the silence of the night, they deal with the secrets and needs of the nature around them.

Finally, with hope and a heart full of determination, Agha Qurban and his family move to the city to take Zainab to the hospital. This difficult journey will put them in front of a different world, but with the strength of their beliefs, they will come out of any challenge. The story of this family is a legend of effort and hope in the midst of difficulties, and an example for all the oppressed and suffering people of the world.

Marseille, formerly Massalia, is one of France's oldest cities, founded around 600 BC by Greek settlers from Phocaea, modern-day Turkey. It became a thriving center of trade and cultural exchange between the Greek world, Iberia, and Gaul. Marseille prospered through commerce in wine, olive oil, and ceramics, attracting diverse merchants and cultures. It faced challenges from Celtic and Ligurian tribes and sought Roman protection during the Punic Wars. Roman influence brought infrastructure improvements and cultural assimilation. Despite periods of turmoil, Marseille's Greek heritage endures in its architecture and cultural traditions.

Why did France invade Mexico in 1862?

War and history, though not necessarily commendable, tend to go hand in hand. Countless military conflicts ranging from small-scale skirmishes to full-blown world wars have plagued the globe for centuries upon centuries. Because of this, we often forget or overlook quite a few interesting battles or wars that have occurred throughout these times. One of these unusual and curious conflicts was the unexpected and theatrical French invasion of Mexico.

This episode of Ten Minute History (like a documentary, only shorter) covers the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars from the beginning of King Louis XVI's reign all the way to the death of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1821. The first half covers the life and death of Louis XVI during the events of the revolution, including the rise and fall of Robespierre and the Reign of Terror. The second half covers the rise of Napoleon, the Napoleonic Wars and the eventual allied victory over France.

Ten Minute History is a series of short, ten minute animated narrative documentaries that are designed as revision refreshers or simple introductions to a topic. Please note that these are not meant to be comprehensive and there's a lot of stuff I couldn't fit into the episodes that I would have liked to. Thank you for watching, though, it's always appreciated.

French is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. Many people know that French is a descendant from Latin; but how did Latin really become French? We explore the language history and the linguistic transformations that led to the creation of French.

French was not only influenced by Latin, but by Gaulish (language spoken in Gaul, the region now known as France) and Germanic languages as well, primarily introduced by the Franks and the Alemanni (who spoke various dialects of Old High German). French isn't the only language which originated from Latin. Other languages like Italian, Spanish, Occitan, Catalan, Sardinian, Romansh, Romanian, Portuguese, and Galician descend from Latin as well.

The small Duchy of Brittany sat on the north-west frontier of France for over six centuries. Despite France being much larger and much more powerful, its king never managed to conquer the Bretons and instead had to wait to marry into its ruling family. So why not? Why didn't France conquer Brittany in such a long period of time. To find out watch this short and simple animated history documentary.

#frenchrevolution
Also referred to as the Revolution of 1789, the French Revolution was an event which quaked France. It is also one of the fiercest revolutions in the West. Even though the French Revolution began in 1789, the effects were quite noticeable a couple of years before. The Revolution lasted a decade and ended only in 1799. Monarchy of France was overthrown during this revolution and people faced much political turmoil. The course of modern history of France was altered with the French Revolution. The commoners were aggravated with the high life-style of the aristocrats and the clergy. People demanded for change and balance in the society so all could enjoy the basic necessities of life. The French Revolution is said to be much different than the other revolutions. Just like every revolution has a cause, the French Revolution was also not without one but unlike the other revolutions where the cause was just national this revolution targeted the good of entire humanity.

He was the man who would define the start of the 19th century. He has more documented victories than any other battlefield commanders in history. From a relatively humble background, he rose to become master of Europe. This is the rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. Featuring historians Dr Michael Rowe, Professor Pamela Pilbeam and Professor David Andress.

In which John Green examines the French Revolution, and gets into how and why it differed from the American Revolution. Was it the serial authoritarian regimes? The guillotine? The Reign of Terror? All of this and more contributed to the French Revolution not being quite as revolutionary as it could have been. France endured multiple constitutions, the heads of heads of state literally rolled, and then they ended up with a megalomaniacal little emperor by the name of Napoleon. But how did all of this change the world, and how did it lead to other, more successful revolutions around the world? Watch this video and find out. Spoiler alert: Marie Antoinette never said, "Let them eat cake." Sorry.

In 1789, the French Monarchy's habit of supporting democratic popular revolutions in North America backfired. Today, we're talking about the French Revolution. Across the world, people were rising up to throw off monarchies, and Louis didn't see the writing on the wall until it was too late. Today we'll talk about how the French Revolution unfolded, and what (if anything) was really accomplished. You'll learn about stuff like the National Assembly, the Tennis Court Oath, the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen, the guillotine, Robespierre, and a bunch of other kind of unbelievable details.

The French Revolution is often portrayed in the West as a case of the oppressed masses rising up against a tyrannical monarchy, nobility, and clergy. This narrative is often backed up by films, history textbooks, and even video games. But the truth is the reality of the French Revolution is much more complicated that. In reality, the French Revolution took a flawed system and turned it into a monstrosity that was much worse. In this video on Pax Tube, I explain why The French Revolution was worse than it is often portrayed, and how its flawed philosophies led to the Reign of Terror and more. Listen in for a lesson about one of the most important and controversial events of modern history!

The first written records for the history of France appeared in the Iron Age. What is now France made up the bulk of the region known to the Romans as Gaul. Greek writers noted the presence of three main ethno-linguistic groups in the area: the Gauls, the Aquitani, and the Belgae. The Gauls, the largest and best attested group, were Celtic people speaking what is known as the Gaulish language.

Over the course of the first millennium BC the Greeks, Romans and Carthaginians established colonies on the Mediterranean coast and the offshore islands. The Roman Republic annexed southern Gaul as the province of Gallia Narbonensis in the late 2nd century BC, and Roman Legions under Julius Caesar conquered the rest of Gaul in the Gallic Wars of 58–51 BC. Afterwards a Gallo-Roman culture emerged and Gaul was increasingly integrated into the Roman Empire.

In the later stages of the Roman Empire, Gaul was subject to barbarian raids and migration, most importantly by the Germanic Franks. The Frankish king Clovis I united most of Gaul under his rule in the late 5th century, setting the stage for Frankish dominance in the region for hundreds of years. Frankish power reached its fullest extent under Charlemagne. The medieval Kingdom of France emerged from the western part of Charlemagne's Carolingian Empire, known as West Francia, and achieved increasing prominence under the rule of the House of Capet, founded by Hugh Capet in 987.

A succession crisis following the death of the last direct Capetian monarch in 1328 led to the series of conflicts known as the Hundred Years' War between the House of Valois and the House of Plantagenet. The war formally began in 1337 following Philip VI's attempt to seize the Duchy of Aquitaine from its hereditary holder, Edward III of England, the Plantagenet claimant to the French throne. Despite early Plantagenet victories, including the capture and ransom of John II of France, fortunes turned in favor of the Valois later in the war. Among the notable figures of the war was Joan of Arc, a French peasant girl who led French forces against the English, establishing herself as a national heroine. The war ended with a Valois victory in 1453.

Here comes my new "History of France" video correcting the mistakes made in the previous video. This one includes the Gallic era but does not show the colonies - which were pretty well shown in the aforesaid previous video.

France's historical beginning is controversial when it comes to give it a date, but we can make it start in 481 when Clovis unites all of the Frankish tribes under a common sovereign entity.

1 : Marsal
2 : Stenay
3 : Jametz
4 : Dun
5 : Clermont-en-Argonne
6 : Bar-le-Duc

The formal title for France today is the Fifth French Republic and given that most nations have only had one period of republicanism (or maybe two), how has France managed to have five? To find out watch this short and simple animated history documentary.

Check out the Armchair Historian channel for more on French Vietnam and the battle of Dien Bien Phu: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAVYfh2_GTE

Dubious morality, drawn out timescales, intricate royal politics, worldwide stages — Colonialism be like that sometimes. And by "Like That" I mean impenetrably complicated. I did my best, I'll say that, but oh man is history a mess in the 15-1900s. This stuff is the reason I had so much trouble with history for so long. It's just so DENSE.
ANYWAY, join Blue and Griffin the Armchair Historian for a look into the history of the multiple successive French Empires. Listen carefully as Blue makes imperceptibly subtle commentary about his extremely non-biased opinions on this chapter in history, and laugh together as we analyze the historical significance of Napoleon Bonaparte's anime hair.

NOTE on 6:14 — I say Napoleon became Emperor in 1802. That's a mistake. In 1802, the constitution of France was amended to make the position of Consul permanent, but Napoleon did not become the Emperor until 1804, when he declared the French Empire. That's my bad.
NOTE on 11:25 — French Guiana, on the northeast coast of South America, remained part of France following the decolonization of Africa. That's a mapping mix-up.

The Kingdom of France of the medieval ages, emerged from the Western dominion of Europe. It was called as Charlemagne’s empire of Carolingians. During those days, the territory was prominently called as Western Francis. It was during the later years in and around 987, the prominence of this Western francias heightened with the formation of the Hugh Capet. The house of Capet is quite significant in the French history. Causes of French revolutions later on, the civil wars, the Vikings threat, and many other interesting aspects, makes the history of France a very interesting subject to know for anyone from any part of the world.
