Guess who's back...back again! You asked for it more than an other grocery item, so here is my complete review of breakfast cereals. I did lots of research and went to many grocery stores for this haul video, because I wanted to give you guy a full list of which cereals to buy, and which to avoid. The bad news is that most cereals in the grocery stores, including the ones in your pantry, are garbage! High sugar, too much corn and rice, and not enough protein and fiber. That's a recipe for diabetes and for feeling hungry 1 hour later. You need to do some digging, bu there are many brands of healthy cereals out there that are loaded with whole grains, protein, and fiber, and have low to no sugar. Let me know what grocery items to do next! Mad love Bobby...Dessi...and Art! XOXO

SUMMARY
Germination is the start of growth of a plant from a seed. It’s that first stage where the seed sprouts to become a seedling.

Inside a seed is a plumule which will go on to become the first plant shoot and a radicle which will form the first root. Seeds also have cotyledons which act as a food store for the new plant until it’s able to carry out photosynthesis. They also have a seed coat which forms a protective layer.

For germination to happen, seeds require water, oxygen and a warm temperature.

It has been really interesting to growing wheat for the first time, with quite different needs while growing and quite labour intensive to harvest, thresh and clean. But is it worth it?

I used to assume that it would not be worth the effort to grow wheat at a small scale, but then I was given a batch of mixed seed as part of a really interesting seed saving project.

Away from the hustles and bustles of the city, Sneh Yadav and Retd Col. Tara Singh are on a mission, to change the way we look at food.
Growing up in a traditional farmer family, agriculture was always a part of Sneh's life and when the time came to choose a new adventure, they didn't have to think twice before going back to the land. and that was the beginning of Tijara Organic Farms.
Tijara Organic farm is not an organic farm by name, they don't have a vast landmass that can cultivate n number of crops all season long. They are very particular about what to grow in their land and also what not to grow in their land. They are also happy to share their space with the living organisms that visit the farm, for them, it was all about creating a sustainable ecosystem.
even with customers, Sneh maintains a very close and personal relationship. As she is determined to change the mindset of the people as to what to eat and when to eat. This is where the concept of family farming comes into the picture. Watch the video, to learn more about the farm and the concept behind Sneh and Tijara Organic farms.

https://www.tilmor.com/en-us Cameron Pederson owns a 50-acre farm with 20 acres being vegetable ground. They run a CSA and Farmers Market with about 12 growing acres of diversified vegetables. One of their biggest challenges like many small farms is weed control. Specifically mechanizing weed control on their land has been a source of discouragement.
Because of this, they have recently decided to start investing in mechanized weed control equipment. They purchased an Allis Chalmers G to pair with a Tilmor basket weeder and 3-point hitch tine weeder. The basket weeder implement allows for inter-row weeding without damaging the crop row which has been a game-changer for many farmers. While the Einbock tine weeder allows for uprooting and burying in the early stages of weed emergence.
Cameron believes Tilmor is changing the small grower space in an area that is truly lacking options by focusing on the small grower and providing where there is a need. Tilmor allows Cameron to simply enjoy farming and provides the tools he needs to focus his time in the fields instead of trying to be resourceful with equipment that is not readily available for weed control on the smaller scale.

Video Transcript:
Our farm is about 50 acres and on that, we have about 20 acres of vegetable ground. At an any given year we're growing actually about 12 acres of vegetables. We have a CSA and a farmers market and so we grow a wide diversity wide variety of vegetables to serve our customers. One of our biggest challenges has been weed control and actually mechanizing we control and so we made a decision to really start investing and mechanized weed control equipment. We bought an Allis Chalmers G and along with that bought a Tilmor Basket Weeder. Which has been a real game-changer for us. We also got a tine weeder, a three-point hitch tine weeder. Which has also been a really great tool. I think Tilmor is gonna change the small grower space simply by trying to focus on the small grower. I think they're really sort of moving into this the space that there really aren't that many other implements that can be belly mounted on a cultivating tractor or implements now that can go behind a Planet Junior or another walk-behind tractor. For me I know a lot of other farmers are really interested in sort of building their own equipment and tinkering and that's not me. I am not interested in taking the time to put together a cultivating implement, So Tilmor is basically allowing me to farm to be in the fields and not have to be an inventor.

Did you know that most of the food you eat started out at a farm? There is a whole system in place to get your food from its origin at a farm to your plate on the table. In Farms and Food for kids, you will learn all about this process and discover some fun facts about what your food goes through as it travels from farm to you.

A farm is usually a large area of land used to grow crops or raise animals for the production of food. Farms are the main source of food for people all over the world. Farmers are the people who work on or own and manage a farm. Most farms are specialized today, meaning that they focus on one or a few select crops or animals. Without farms, many people in the world would go hungry.

So how does food get from a farm to you? It goes through several steps, and this video talks about some of them specifically. First, farmers prepare the land by turning the soil with a plow. Then the seeds get planted by a seeder, and the crops get watered. Sometimes, farmers will also spray fertilizers to help the crops grow or pesticides to keep pests from ruining the crops.

Once the crops are ready, they are harvested and then stored. Farmers then transport the goods to wholesalers like restaurants and retailers. Finally, retailers place the food on the shelves for us to buy them. Sometimes, food goes through processing plants that help that food last longer. Other times, smaller farms can sell their food at farmers markets directly to consumers!

We hope you and your student(s) enjoyed learning about the importance of farms! If you want to learn even more, head over to our website and download one of our many free lesson plans about farms and food, full of activities, worksheets, and more!

A leech farm is a type of aquaculture facility that specializes in the breeding and cultivation of leeches for medical and commercial purposes. In China, leech farming has a long history and is still practiced today as a traditional form of medicine and as a source of income for many farmers.
Leech farming is an emerging industry in China that has gained significant attention in recent years due to its potential health benefits and economic opportunities. Leeches have been used for medicinal purposes for centuries, and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has long recognized their therapeutic benefits. Leech farming is the practice of breeding and raising leeches in a controlled environment for their medical use.
The practice of using leeches for medicinal purposes dates back thousands of years in China. Leeches were believed to have healing properties and were used to treat a wide range of ailments, including headaches, fevers, and even mental illness. In traditional Chinese medicine, leeches were used to balance the body's energy, or qi, and to improve blood circulation.

Today, leech farming in China is primarily focused on the production of Hirudo medicinalis, a species of leech that is widely used in the medical industry. These leeches are used in a variety of medical procedures, including plastic surgery, reconstructive surgery, and limb reattachment surgery. They are also used to treat conditions such as arthritis and varicose veins.

Leech farming requires specific equipment and materials to ensure the proper growth and development of the leeches. The main requirements include:

1. Leech tanks: Leeches require a highly oxygenated environment with clean water to thrive. Leech tanks are specially designed to provide the necessary conditions for the leeches. The tanks are made of plastic or fiberglass and can hold up to 1,000 leeches depending on the size.

2. Water filtration system: Leeches are sensitive to water conditions, and any impurities can be harmful to their health. A water filtration system is essential to ensure the water remains clean and oxygenated for the leeches.
3. Netting: Nets are used to separate different sizes of leeches as they grow. The larger leeches can consume the smaller ones, so it is important to keep them separated based on size to avoid cannibalism.

4. Feed: Leeches are carnivorous and require live or fresh animal blood to survive. In leech farming, usually pig or cow blood is used as the feed for the leeches. Other sources of food such as fish or chicken blood are not recommended as they may contain harmful bacteria.

5. Tools: Various tools are needed for feeding, transferring, and harvesting the leeches. These include tubes, tweezers, and suction devices.

In Summary, leech farming has a long history in China and is a thriving industry today. The process of leech farming involves closely managing the breeding, hatching, raising, and harvesting of leeches. However, there are many challenges to the industry, such as water quality control, disease management, feeding management, climate control, and labor-intensive work.
Several future opportunities for leech farming exist, including the development of new technologies and new markets. With careful management and investment in innovation, leech farming in China could be a significant contributor to traditional medicine and a profitable business for the farmers.

How they can cultivate thousands of tons of spirulina to generate hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue every year. Spirulina is known as blue-green algae that grows both in fresh as well as salt water. Similar to plants it produces energy from sunlight through the photosynthesis process. It grows and thrives in warm water alkaline ponds and rivers. Protein is one of the important components in a diet. It is one of the best potential sources of protein. This protein in Spirulina is grown commercially in large-scale culture systems for human as well as animal consumption. Spirulina contains 40 to 80% protein content and its growth rate is very high. For its growth, it requires less water, land, and can grow in any climate in tropical regions. In commercial aquacultures such as fish, prawn, and livestock; Spirulina either in the wet or dried form is used as a complementary dietary ingredient. In developing countries, it is used as a potential source of food, feed, and fuel. For human nutrition, it is cultivated in large scale in clean waters and under controlled conditions while it is also grown in wastewaters and can be used in animal feed.

Factory farming is a mainstay of modern agriculture. In a story told from three very different perspectives, this documentary draws a fascinating and also frightening picture of the status quo.

Pig farmer Dirk Nienhaus grants us a rare glimpse behind the scenes at his modern piggery. He shows how livestock breeding has developed into a high-tech, efficient process - highlighting the fact that factory farming and cheap meat are two sides of the same coin. Dirk Nienhaus sometimes reflects on whether his pigs are suffering and candidly considers his personal role in the system.

Friedrich Mülln views modern farming from the opposing side: the founder of the animal welfare organization SOKO Tierschutz has specialized in publicizing scandalous conditions in factory farms. In the search for evidence of violations, he films in secret at night - the documentary contains some of the footage he manages to capture. Friedrich Mülln outlines why he condemns factory farming outright.

Anja Hradetzky is looking for ways to harmonize livestock farming and animal wellbeing - and finds herself challenging the limits of the system. Her cows live out on the pasture. The calves are raised by their mothers. They’re out in the fields when they’re killed - with a single shot. Nevertheless, questions remain: What constitutes a happy life for animals? Who decides when that life should end? But also: Why is this not the norm in 99 per cent of livestock farms? And why, after so many years, does a farmer like Anja still struggle to make a living?

Peanut also knows as Peanut is one of the top oil-seed crops grown in Asian countries. Peanut is widely grown in the tropics and subtropics, being important to both small and large commercial growers. Peanut is an annual herbaceous plant that may reach up to 50 cm height. Peanut belongs to the family of “Fabaceae” and genus of “Arachis”. India is the second largest producer of Peanuts next to China in Asia. Peanuts are used in culinary preparation by roasting, making peanut flour and extracting peanut oil. Peanuts are rich in essential nutrients. In a 100 grams serving of peanuts provide 550 calories and are an excellent source of several B vitamins, vitamin E, several dietary minerals, such as manganese, magnesium and phosphorus, and dietary fiber. Peanut seed contains about 40 to 45 % of oil and 25 % of protein. Peanut kernel is very easy digestible and the oil cake obtained afterthe extraction of the oil from Peanut is a valuable organic manure and animal feed. It contains 6 % ‘N’, 1 %phosphorus and 1% potash. Peanut is a good rotation crop which builds up the soil fertility by fixing atmospheric nitrogen through the root nodules. Peanut Farming is also an excellent cover crop especially .

Groundnut Farming (or peanut farming) is a very lucrative agro-business venture.

It guarantees a large return on investment, especially with the application of the right techniques.

Interestingly, one can cultivate groundnut in a wide range of environment.

However, it grows well in arid and semi-arid regions, requiring an optimum temperature of about 30oC.

Because of its numerous uses, groundnuts are in great demand and this opens an opportunity for interested investors to export the product.

Do you know that most quantities of groundnut harvested in African countries are consumed locally?

This implies that there is a readily available market for groundnut and its by-product both locally and internationally.

Uses of Groundnut

Groundnut is a popular source of food throughout the world, and for that reason, more and more people are going into this agro-business venture.

Here are some of the uses of groundnut that makes it popular.

Many farmers grow groundnut because of its nuts, oil, and its vegetative residue.

In many countries, people consume groundnut as peanut butter while many others crush and use it for the production of groundnut oil.

At the same time, some simply consume groundnuts as a confectionery snack, boiled, roasted, salted or in sweets.

In some African countries, the people use groundnuts to make special dishes like; peanut butter soup ‘nkatenkwan’ in Ghana, peanut cake (kuli-kuli) in Nigeria, and Mali meat stew ‘maafe’.

Harvesting in Peanut Farming :

Premature harvesting of Peanut pods lowers the yield, oil percent age, and quality of seeds. Delay in harvesting after physiological maturity can result in increased Aspergillus flavus infection, and aflatoxin contamination in pods/seeds, and many pods may be left in the soil due to weakening of pegs. The Spanish bunch varieties (nondormant types) start germinating if harvesting is delayed. Therefore, it is important to harvest at optimum maturity.

There are three ways of harvesting in Peanut Farming :

1. Apply sprinkler irrigation for an hour and manually pull the plants.

2. Provide a light surface irrigation 2 – 3 days before harvest a n d use a blade harrow that cuts the plant roots 1 2 – 1 5 cm below the soil surface. Then manually pull the plants.

3. When irrigation water is scarce, use a plow or tractor-driven digger to loosen the soil. Then manually remove the plants.

Note: Harvested plants should be stacked in the field for a few days for air and sun drying (on bright sunny days) before stripping the pods. Thereafter, pods are continuously dried to reach a moisture content of 6 – 6 % to avoid the development of aflatoxin caused by yellow mold (Aspergillus flavus).

Storage of Peanut:
After cleaning and grading, store the dry pods in gunny bags and stack them up to 10 bags high in separated stacks so that air freely circulates among them .

Organic and sustainable farms start with a foundation of healthy soil. And when we take care of our soil, it takes care of us. Healthy soil contains rich biodiversity such as bacteria, fungi, minerals, and other organic matter. This biodiversity promotes water retention, erosion resistance, and yields more nutrient-dense crops. Nourish your body the way nature intended: with the sound support of whole food based nutritional support and diet.

Modern farming method is growing potatoes using aeroponics. Aeroponic growing is a soilless method where plants are grown, supported at the top, with their roots hanging into a box. A solution of nutrients mixed in water is periodically pumped into the box and misted onto the hanging roots. The roots stay hydrated and absorb their nutrients without having to stay suspended in soil or water.

Coffee is a flowering plant that is being cultivated for its grains/seeds called ‘coffee beans‘. Many coffee products including beverages are made from these freshly grown coffee beans. When it comes to planting size, these trees are small. Coffee plants are native to tropical areas of Asia and the South African continent. Coffee was introduced in India in 1936 near Chikmagalur in the state of Karnataka. Coffee is one of the popular commodity crops that plays a major role in the world economy. Brazil occupies the number one position in coffee production in the world. In the commercial aspect, coffee is a major export crop for many countries across the globe. There are many species of coffee cultivated across the globe. However, “coffee Arabica” accounts for 80% of coffee production in the world. Another species of coffee is Coffee Robusta ( made from Coffea canephora plants) accounts for about 20% of world coffee production.

The coffee tree produces purple or red cherries (edible fruits) and these cherries can consist of seeds (coffee beans). Coffee trees are bush or tree types that can reach a height of 12 feet. The coffee plant flowers have an excellent aroma and usually exist in white color. Once a coffee orchard is established, it can produce coffee beans up to 55 to 60 years. Generally, coffee plants growing fruits beans/cherries) after 3 to 4 years of planting (especially Coffee Arabica). Coffee plants can be grown in pots and containers and even in back yards. Micropropagation of sugarcane is important to obtain pathogen-free plants, genetically homogeneous and invigorate. The micropropagation procedure is divided into stages for the sake of better understanding. Micropropagation for large-scale sugarcane production using a temporary immersion system (TIS) is described. In addition, the aim of this chapter is to report, from the laboratory to the field, the best way to establish and use basic seed (primary seed), semicommercial seed (foundation or secondary seed) and commercial seed production. In conclusion, commercial sugarcane micropropagation enables the massive multiplication of plants to obtain certified vitroplants and increase the sugarcane and sugar productivity per unit area.

In this video, we look at how farmers can use intensive farming to increase the efficiency of biomass transfer. We then look at why some people have ethical objections to intensive farming methods.

This video is based on the AQA spec. If you are following a different exam board then you should check your specification. The Amazon link above is an affiliate link. Agriculture takes a huge toll on the earth’s environment by producing massive CO2 emissions and taking up a lot of land. But there is a way to make it more sustainable: Agroforestry. And it has been around for thousands of years - we just forgot about it.

We're destroying our environment at an alarming rate. But it doesn't need to be this way. Our channel Planet A explores the shift towards an eco-friendly world — and challenges our ideas about what dealing with climate change means. We look at the big and the small: What we can do and how the system needs to change. Every Friday we'll take a truly global look at how to get us out of this mess.
