Learn how to identify and tell the difference between the invasive Yellow Flag Iris and the native Cattail. Yellow Flag Iris is invasive in North America. Yellow flag is native to temperate regions of Europe, Asia, and northern Africa. It was imported to North America as an ornamental plant as early as the late-1700s. The plant has since been deliberately propagated as a horticultural plant and for erosion control and in sewage treatment ponds.
Do you have iris in your garden and want to learn how to care for them? You're in the right place.
You''ll learn how to cut off the spent iris bloom stalks (deadhead), remove yellowing leaf tips and withered brown leaves so your irises look great for the rest of the growing season. These iris care techniques works for both bearded and beardless iris. If you've ever wondered how to care for iris after they finish flowering in spring and early summer, this video will answer your questions!
Here is everything I know about keeping Irises - we've had irises at the house since I was born but it still took me a long time to realize what they need and what all those different varieties would need different. Hope this helps!
This Spring I placed an order for some Bearded Iris from Schreiner's Iris Garden. I love the quality of Iris that I purchase from Schreiners. This is my second order from them over the last few years. Join me while I unbox my new Iris and share with you the varieities I purchased, as well as my experiences with growing Iris. I share with you the varities of Iris I currently have growing in my garden, as well as how to plant them, what to use to fertilize your Iris, and what to do with the foliage and bloom stalks one they are done blooming. Now is also the perfect time to begin dividing your Iris. Choose to do this task in the evening when its cooler, or on an overcast day. Do you grow Iris in your garden? Comment below.

In this Episode, Farmers Market examines the challenges confronting Agricultural in Nigeria, using the experience of Benue State, The Food Basket of Nation! Please watch, comment and share ...
I went to Otukpo, Benue state(one of the North Central states in Nigeria) to establish a plantain farm, upon my arrival, i went out to get something to eat, the food i got was unpleasant to the taste 😭, imagine the stress of spending the entire day trying to get to my destination and i couldn't get a decent meal to help my body 😢.
The place in particular i stayed at in Otukpo was Ikobi, my experience shared in this video are all references to Ikobi and the nearest town to it, because it was in the town i got the food i ate all through my stay 😂. There are other places in Otukpo that are civilized although i didn't move around much because of the work i had to do there. Also the nice people i met were around my vicinity, i didn't get to converse much with people outside where i stayed.

IDPs in Benue received food and pads ahead of Christmas
The continued violence by herdsmen have resulted in the death and displacement of thousands of farmers and their families in Benue State (and other states in Nigeria). The failure of the government to put a stop to this is detrimental to the long term food security of the country.
Nigerians should be united in demanding that the government bring the perpetrators of these violence to book and provide the displaced families with the support that they URGENTLY need.

Learn how to cook Okoho soup in a very clear and easy way from this students in idoma land Otukpo.
Okoho is the main traditional food peculiar to the Idoma people of Benue State, Central Nigeria. It is made from the plant Cissus populnea belonging to the family Amplidaceae (Vitaceae).
It is a soup made from the Okoho stick which is very slimy after preparation. It is usually prepared with bush meat (such as grass-cutter, alligator and smoked meat etc.) and best served with pounded yam (aka Onihi). It can also be eaten with semolina, eba (made from garri) and yam flour. This soup is usually prepared without the use of oil. It is the most respected and demanded food in all Idoma events such as; traditional weddings, burial ceremonies, birthdays and other festivities. Okoho soup is highly medicinal and also known for its ability to aid digestion. Other Nigerian tribes such as Ibos and Igalas also refer to it as Okoho, while the stick is known as Ajara or Orogbolo by the Yoruba tribes of northern and southern Nigeria. The Hausas usually call it Dafara.

(Nigeria Food) Benue state is known as the "Food Basket of Nigeria" and celebrated this year with an enormous food festival. The tastes, smells and flavours of an array of classic Nigerian food dishes were accompanied by delicious servings of local dancing, drummers and celebrated musicians.
But the stars of the show are the women from across Benue who took part in the festival's cooking competition.
"For women -- cooking is like a natural thing," says Doosuur Tor- Anyiin, a Benue state journalist and cook in the competition.
Hundreds of women attended to watch the competition. The prizes included: a new car for first prize (plus 500,000N), a motorbike for second (plus 300,000N), and a deep freezer for third place (plus 200,000N).
"I learnt how to cook when I was fourteen years old and I can't quantify," explained Doosuur Tor- Anyiin.
(Nigerian Food) Doosuur cooked a delicious soup recipe from her local area -- it's called Ikyegh Shashwa -- and the ingredients include chicken, onions, pepper, local seed for flavouring, ginger, locust beans and black eyed pepper.
"It all goes into the soup," she says.
But she had plenty of competition in the event (organised by Unilever in partnership with the office of the first lady of Benue state) as women from across the state vied with their own Nigerian Food dishes.
"I have been cooking for my husband and he has never one day said madam you have not cooked well today," said Mwuese, wiping her brow as she cooked her Okra and vegetable soup. "So I'm highly confident that I will win!"

My first time in Benue State of Nigeria, I was welcomed with Pocho. I have never heard of it then and i wondered how this very tasty soup with some sort of pleasantly stink smell was made.
I had not started Foodies and Spice then, Inshort i was there to visit the Mum of a boyfriend (we ended up not marrying cos it got extremely complicated) but at least i took the taste and memory of Pocho and grilled locusts back.
Ingredients are simply:
Any protein of choice (i was served with chicken)
Fermented locusts beans
Ginger
Onions
Pepper
Palm oil
Crayfish
Dried Fish
salt and seasoning to taste
It is so easy to make and it is unbelievably tasty
