Don’t search for vocabulary words, do automatic vocabulary building. A lot of people search google for vocabulary words by searching “list of difficult words” or “list of english vocabulary words”, but that’s a wrong way of improving your vocabulary.

I say don’t directly learn vocabulary. Learn it indirectly: Do something that of which learning vocabulary is a side effect. Instead of focusing directly on the words and googling them and cramming them, do something that naturally pushes vocabulary words into your life. So that they come with context and meaning.

So we are just focusing on exposing our mind to English content, rest happens automatically. It results in the best kind of vocabulary learning. You also feel a relief that “I don't have to do anything as such, it will be done on its own”.

So by exposing your mind to English content like reading books/newspapers/articles, watching English shows, or consuming any English content, you will understand words' meaning in depth. This learning will be natural and organic. On the other hand, if you search for list of difficult words and try to cram them forcefully you will only get their surface level meaning. This learning would be unnatural and inorganic.

Automatic spaced repetition: They say that spaced repetition is essential to remembering new words. I say, let spaced repetition be automatic as well. If you consistently consume good content, words are bound to repeat themselves. They will reinforce their presence in your mind naturally then.

Automatic usage: They also say that one should start using words so as to remember them. I say, even let that be automatic. Over time words will get solidify in your mind and your mind will automatically start using them.

If like reading books, Kindle is an amazing way to increase your vocabulary because long pressing any word pops up its dictionary meaning. Or if you prefer reading physical books instead, keep a dictionary handy and use it when you come across any word you don't already know.
