A prophet is one who acts as a channel of communication between God and the world and who tells the world what God is trying to say to the world.
Ephesians 2:19-20 Now therefore you are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God: And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone.
The church is built upon the apostles and the prophets and the words they wrote. They do not only prophesied, but they also gave the most accurate accounts of ancient history. Besides that, they gave us a great deal of the doctrine, the teachings we believe and after which we pattern our lives.
