iPhone 5C: How Sturdy?

Now that the Apple's iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C have now made their way in the hands of the iPhone fans, most of them just couldn't stop jumping up and down with glee. Who wouldn't? After the long wait, Apple has now released not one but two flagships that have surely caught the limelight as the blogosphere couldn't stop talking about them.

Talk about the iPhone 5S; it looks pretty sturdy with its aluminum housing that comes in gold, silver, and gray. The sleekness of metal and glass make the device incredibly thin and light along with the great engineered design to compress the device into an extraordinarily powerful smartphone! But, what about the sturdiness of iPhone 5C?

With iPhone 5C, Apple made a paradigm shift with their iPhone generation. As what was talked about in the rumor mill, iPhone 5C is said to be the cheaper version of iPhone. Its housing is made up of polycarbonate plastic-a cheap material-that perhaps had contributed to its cheaper price. Although the "C" in its name never really stood for "cheap" as what was expected, Apple managed to pull it off with the revamped aesthetics of the device-rendering the "C" standing for "color".

But, with a cheaper material, can iPhone 5C stand for a few drops? Good thing apple made swanky iPhone 5C cases that have been cleverly made to mix and match with the color of your iPhone 5C. This case is made of silicone for the reason that it is pleasant to touch. Apple added that the inside was lined by soft microfiber, and that it has precisely drilled holes to support the speakers. However, going back to the soft microfiber, do you think that can withstand a sudden hard bump? Here is where the iPhone 5C mobile back case from Apple falls short.

Android Authority made a drop test to both phones-iPhone 5S and 5C-back to back, so as to know how far these smarty phones can go. They dropped the devices on chest level three times: 1.On the phone's back, 2. On the edge or side; and 3. Facing down.

iPhone 5S was the first one to be challenged, and the 5C comes along after the tests have been done to 5S. After the first drop, it rendered only a little dinged at the back, but not as much. The second test has been done and the edges showed more scuffs, but the screen is still scuff-free. And now, the final test for iPhone 5S, dropping faced down made another scuff on the rim, but the device still stayed intact and that it can still hold up even with a few more drops.

And when it was 5C's time to shine-or to be shattered-it did all the three tests. There has been no surprise that the 5C got more scuffs on the first and second tests. And when it was time for the third challenge, the iPhone 5C's screen didn't succeed, rendering its screen all shattered.

Goes to show, even if the iPhone 5C is packed up with Apple's latest platform, iOS 7, and had a revamped aesthetics, you can bid goodbye with this smartphone in just a few drops.

Apple iPhone: How sturdy? Well, not so sturdy at all. And much better if you could find harder back cases than that of Apple's swanky cases.
