Product Design Made Simple | The 5 P's to Turn Ideas into Reality

In this video we are going to walk through the 5 P's of product design to help you understand what is needed to develop your own products at home. We will show a product I designed for myself, a Nightlight Coaster that changes brightness when a cup is placed on it. We will look at each phase of the design process and identify what happens when. We will also discuss how this applies to the professional world. The 5 P's of product design were something I came up with for this video. Each stage can be renamed but generally applies. 1. Problem Statement - What do you need to build or what problem do you need a design solution for. 2. Problem Solving - Come up with various ideas that can solve the problem. 3. Purchase - Order any parts or supplies needed to test and validate concepts. 4. Prototype - Begin building designs based on your problem solving ideas and figure out which option will work best. 5.
