Turkish court to release US pastor Andrew Brunson
A Turkish court will release US pastor Andrew Brunson from house arrest. The court has sentenced him to three years in jail but said Brunson will not spend any more time in custody because of time already served. The court's decision to lift judicial controls meant that Brunson can leave Turkey and return to the US. The pastor has been detained since October 2016 and was charged with links to Kurdish militants and supporters of Fethullah Gulen, the cleric blamed by Turkey for a failed coup attempt in 2016. His case strained relations between Ankara and Washington.
