Plastic water bottles start as tiny PET plastic pellets. These are eventually melted down and molded through a process known as injection molding.

Plastic water bottles have to fit on larger molds. From there, they are expanded with pressurized air. Think of it like blowing up a balloon.

This process is easier for plastic cups, like promotional stadium cups. as well as for lids and squeeze tops.

Another option for manufacturing plastic water bottles is through extrusion molding, a process which involves heating the material into long noodle-shaped plastic. Three pieces of this plastic are molded together and once again expanded through pressurized air. Any excess plastic is trimmed and the water bottle is ready to go!
