Dr. Leonard Kaminsky, Director of the Fisher Institute of Health and Well-Being at Ball State University in Muncie, IN, reviews his article appearing in the February 2020 issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings, where since low cardiorespiratory fitness levels are linked to mortality risk across a variety of diseases, and challenges stemming from the interpretation of data varied among sex, age, and country, he was inspired to seek a standard measure using data from the United States, Canada, and Norway. Dr. Kaminsky notes that cardiorespiratory fitness should routinely be measured in clinical practice as vital sign, and he invites other counties to contribute cardiorespiratory fitness data to the FRIEND registry.
