HOW TO MAKE ABAK ATAMA. CALABAR STYLE BANGA SOUP
Hello! This video shows you how to make Abak Atama which is Calabar style Banga soup. Banga soup is a Nigerian soup made from palm fruit juice. Abak Atama is popular among the people of Cross River state and Akwa Ibom state. Atama leaves are used in this particular Banga soup hence the name Abak Atama.
The ingredients used for this Calabar style Banga soup are as follows
Ingredients
8 Cups fresh palm fruits
1 Cup Atama leaves
1kg Meat
1 Dried catfish
2 Cups periwinkle
1/2 Cup crayfish
1 Onion
6 Fresh pepper
1 Uyayak(Aidan fruit)
1 Cow skin(Pomo)
3 Seasoning cubes
Salt to taste
Water
Things to note:
If the meat and cow skin you are using are tough, let them cook properly before adding the palm fruit juice as the time it takes for the soup to be ready is not enough to properly cook and soften the meat or pomo(cow skin)
Abak Atama is similar to Ofe Aku and Delta Banga soup, the only difference is the spices and leaves used.
This Calabar style Banga soup is one of the best Nigerian soups you can taste. It has a unique taste, It is very delicious.
Abak Atama soup can be eaten with pounded yam, Semovita, fufu, Eba etc.
